Good High Performance Driving/Racing School

Does anyone know of a good drivers training school for mid-engine cars (ie: NSX and/or Porsche Boxster

) in the Northwest? I would love to attend one sometime, but the closer the better (less travelling expense). I want to know how to really DRIVE my car and really enjoy my time on the track. Please let me know if you have experienced any, or heard good/bad things about any. Thanks in advance.

Autocrossing is a good, safe, legal way to get a feel for how a car reacts to different situations. It's also cheap. Autocrosses are also held all over the place so travel shouldn't be a big problem. The thing I hate about autocrossing is that you have to sit around all day for a total of 3-5 minutes of actual driving time.
 
Jester - how is that free boxster holding up? I see you want to squeeze out all the handling limits in the car and yourself.

local autox's are a great place to start, other than that, just look for tracks that have DE's (driver education events).

I'd contact the local PCA chapter (Porsche Club of America) and start there. The local BMWCCA also probably does these. Figure about $300 for a weekend school where you'll get about 3 hours of track time. I've attended schools with both clubs and are pretty happy with them.

Semi-pro schools like TrackTime cost about double that, although you get a little more time (approx 4 hours for a weekend school) and more consistent, structured instruction.

The "pro" schools (Barber, Russell, etc) get you more track time, but the $$ start to ramp up - figure $500 or more per day

Once you get more experience, the 'bang for the buck' deal are the lapping days (sometimes called test-and-tune). For about $150 or so per day, you get 4+ hours of tracktime.
