gold and black screws in door

After reading the DIY about how to remove a door inner panel I realised that the part about the four black and the four gold screws was the other way around on my car, just like in a thread I read about adjusting the windows. Here too the gold screws were for the metal parts. The gold screws in my car were for the metal parts also and the black ones for the plastic parts. The article on how to remove the Bose speaker/amplifier says differently. I wonder which is correct ?
Only trying to avoid mistakes and confusion here ...

That is a most excellent question & one which I have myself been mistaken in execution in the past.
The intuitive thing to do one would think would be to match the gold to gold & black to black (plastic) parts; however that is entirely opposite.
The gold screws have shoulders and are there to prevent them clamping down on the softer plastic.
So, go gold to black & black to gold!

My vote is Gold on metal and black on plastic. I find these frequently swapped on doors that have been worked on before.

Skyguy's picture shows the before disassembly or as built from the factory so it's right.

Put me down for gold on plastic and black on metal. I know without question that it was that way from the factory on my 95 and I have taken apart doors that had never been opened before and have always found that to be the case. It does make a difference. Once they go in wrong, then the hole is usually stripped so that one set of the original screws no longer goes in tight anymore.

It is gold on metal, and they are different sizes. Doing it the other way will get you sent to the parts department, like me, for 2 replacements cause you think you stripped it out. gold/metal....black/plastic

Wrong
As explained the 'shoulders' on the gold screws are to prevent clamping down on the plastic, but still hold it securely in place
I guess we need a volunteer with late model original owner that has never had the door apart to validate - simply removing the trim piece from the handle will suffice.
