David has entered his Nsx into the Sport Compact Car challenge. The readers get to vote for which 10 cars enter the challenge, last year a stock 360 won the event. I think David's car has an excellent chance of beating all the highly modified Supras, but he needs to get into the challenge first. I've already voted and I hope everyone here will do the same.

I'm sure he'll correct me if I got this wrong.

He actually made it into the challenge last year, but had to withdraw because of some kind of engine problem (waiting on parts I think?)

I thought the contest last year was rather disappointing. Like, a few of the cars were like, "Well, so-and-so withdrew, so we called up this guy we know at that last minute and got him to put his car back together in a hurry so we'd have a full 10 cars."

There is a picture of each car with its ballot number in SCC. Several look pretty mean.

Remember, they also judge things like:

1. Emissions
2. Gas Mileage
3. Best engineering
4. Cleanest engine compartment
5. "Grandma" test (ease of getting in/out, smoothness of gear changes, passenger comfort, etc...)
6. Plus a lot of "suprise" tests the editors throw out

The contest is not just a race for street cars. The reason the Ferrari won last year was because it did well on all areas of the challenge.

That being said, I am also voting for David to get into the contest!

There are 92 (David's 91 is #18)... a few we might NOT want to go head-to-head with include:
#14 - 01 Viper ACR (Paul Mumford of OTC and NSX-Files fame) -- fast car with a great driver
#73 - 00 MR2 Spyder (James Chen) -- this was SCC cover last summer; fast car with great handling
#86 - SRX-7 -- 450 hp RX7 motor pushing a 1600lb open-wheel car (looks like it has a pushrod front suspension)

David's car looks pretty good, and has a good blend of balance. With the right driver, it could be a serious contender.

Do they allow the ballot to be electronically reproduced, or do you need to buy a magazine (1 copy = 1 vote) ??

No electronically reproduced or submitted ballots will count. You must use snail mail to submit your ballot. (Per the magazine)

I would also add Mani's Supra and the Skyline. Just do what I did - make it an all Acura ballot.

I purchased the magazine and voted for David some time ago.....anybody know what ever happened?

I don't think he made it. I voted for him! But I don't think enough of us did. There were some interesting cars in there and David's NSX should have definitely made the cut.

Check that issue out if you get a chance, it's an interesting batch of contenders.

Mani did great as always, but did not come out on top. The Skyline from Motorex had some last minute issues and was replaced by another Skyline. The guy with the Ferrari 360 from last year was back with a heavily modded MR2.

The competition also included a monster of a Viper... nuf said

What issue did the article appear in? I'd be curious to check it out if I can get my hands on it.

Part one is in the Feb 03 issue (on stands now) and Part two is coming next issue.

Mani already gave a full spoiler report on the supraforums and posted some videos if anyone is interested.

I made it in (again) and missed the show (again). I had trouble with my last round of upgrades and could not get the motor back together in time. Waited over two months for a set of main bearings. I guess they make them using the same process used for samurai swords or something. : (

One of the editors at SCC is a friend of mine and he has been giving me copious shit ever since then.
