Getting tar off of front bumper and hood

I am sure many of you get little black streaks of road tar on your front end while cruising around town. Even worse on the track. I use one of those soft mitts to wash my car, but it does not get those black streaks off. If I use my fingernail (when it is soft from being in the water) and lightly scrape on it, it comes off easily. There must be a better technique!?
Any suggestions or product recommendations would be welcome.

Turtle Wax bug & tar remover works well, and believe it or not, so does Avon "Skin So Soft".

Just to make SURE you don't cause any minute scratches...I am strongly reccomending you pick up some of Griot's Paint Cleaning Clay and speedshine...or at least some Clay Magic...if your local autozone carries it. I've used both and prefer the Griot's but both work well.

it works...

While clay may work I prefer the simpler way - get some solvent and just wipe the stuff off. I like 3M's Universal Auto Solvent which I buy from NAPA or Griots. In a pinch you can use charcoal starter fluid too. Do NOT use nail polish remover - most contain acetone which will harm your paint. You can also use a mild polish like Zymol's HD Cleanse but I prefer a solvent followed by polish and wax.

My favorite gentle solvent is Goo Gone, a yellow liquid also available as Automotive Goo Gone. A similar product is D-Solve It, but I have not seen it in a long time. They are easy on the paint, and are citrus oil based, I believe. I have removed tar, crayon, and tape adhesive with both products, and neither has any abrasive effect. Just be sure to wash the area with car wash liquid to clean off all solvent after use. I just bought my last 16 ounce bottle of Automotive Goo Gone at K-Mart for $3.99.

I STILL think you'd be good to get some clay even if one of the cheaper fixes works for now...I find mine comes in hady for all sorts of crap. I wish I could just show you my cars...no swirls...scratches...nothing...like showroom...except rock chips of course

You can try a little WD40. Just remember to wash it afterwards with a lot of soap and water.

I used it just yesterday to dissolve a few tar blobs off the windshield.

So you've been to the track lately, huh?

I find that Zymol HD-Cleanse works great for this, and it is not physically abrasive.

Don't forget to wax over it after you remove the tire marks.
