Dear all I want to share with you my old project that I did while retrofiting Genuine NSX 91-05 seats to my civic EK.
First I got the seats from UK, they came as tan leather barn find seats. All the cushions were good condition, with some tear and wear on the leather.
Mod 01 I Recoloring
I wanted to match the seats to my interior, and on the side bolsters leather was mostly good condition after a good clean, with minor wear and tear. Those scars I repaired with leather patching kit, and started painting leather to black. First coat was applied gently with sponge, and second coat with spray gun.
Mod 02 I Trimming mid cushions
I measured middle cushion sections and made a side cad curve so that I could make an offset for about one inch and set it up on CNC wire sponge cutter.
Both seat and back cushions were cut for a one inch which is about maximum that you can trim before the sponge starts narrowing down and lose the shape.
Middle sections were wrapped in Genuine Alcantara Charcoal 9002 with striped sections.
Mod 03 I Power control backlight
As most of you here know, NSX 91-05 has only two pieces of plastic that have image indicating the control of adjusting the seat front or back movement or tilting the back of the seat. But it doesnt have backlight. I gently removed those plastic pieces with genuine images, and drilled a holes and trimmed the plastic to leave only the slight edge that can support the plastic with the image. After trimming and sanding, plastics were painted in satin finish black to match the seats, and I installed white leds which were connected to the power adjustment.
I am sure most are very familiar with leather recoloration but I wanted to share this other two mods I did as I think they are great improvement to the genuine seats which are very good seats from the start, but with some lack of side support. And now with this mod you have a lot more side support from the same genuine bolster since you seat deeper. Let backlight of power adjustment might not be everyones cup of tea but it brings the seat a bit up to date without making it look silly.
Let me know what you think about this mod.
Best regards,
Luka Jelaska
