I am in the process of taking out my fuel tank to find a leak, when the tank is full and I take a hard left hand U turn the smell off gas fills the cokpit. Any one have any experience, hints on removing the tank. I got all the hoses disconnected with out any problems have to do the rest from the underside, my faviorite place to work

Work in a well ventilated area and don’t let anyone smoke or use an open flame anywhere near where you are working (turn off your garage furnace if you have one)!!! Read SM page 11-108 and follow the instructions carefully. Use new crush washers (1) for the drain bolt and the fuel line banjo bolt (2). Replace the shift cable cotter pins with new ones (an inspection mirror is helpful to reinstall these pins)

You’ll want to drain most or all of the gas out of the tank so that it’s easier to remove (drain it into a red gas can)
Removal of the center rod is on page 5-23
Removal of the shift cables is on page 13-48
Fuel filter banjo bolt torque settings are on page 11-97
Step 5, Removal of the 6P connector. The connector is located behind the driver’s seat interior panel and through the fuel pump inspection port see pg 11-107
If you’ve drained the fuel, the tank is pretty light but it is helpful to have a jack to help hold it up when installing

Once it is out, look at the hoses that connect to the two cut-off valves, my guess that it is the passenger’s side cut-off valve that has a broken connection or loose hose but that’s just a guess. Picture of a cutoff valve is on pg 11-140.

Out of curiousity, how often do we need to clean the nsx fuel tank?

My daily beater was experiencing hesitation and sputtering. My mechanic took the fuel tank out, cleaned it thoroughly and the engine is back to 100% again. He said he found water in the fuel tank!

You should not have to take the fuel tank OUT to clean it. Just drain it if you suspect water. Change your fuel filter too.

If indeed there is water or other substance in the fuel tank, I don't think you can drain them ALL out without removing the fuel tank. Isn't the fuel tank baffled inside? I may be wrong tho.

yes, it has a raised area around where the fuel pump debre filter picks up at... its about 2.5 inches tall.

this also helps to prevent sloshing the tank, by always having fuel in this mini baffled area right around the debre filter, so even on low tank levels, the pumps debre filter, is always submerged in fuel....

getting the harnesses back on can be a pain, but its doable, also, get some tall jack stands.... we used 3 footers, and had the car about 2+ ft in the air to remove the tank...

Also we utilized a floor jack, and a 4"x4" to raise the tank back into place, and get the harness back on with due to the tight compact space above the tank....

Tanks a lot

Thanks for all your help.

Got the tank out and found the right fuel cutoff\petcock leaking. have a new one on order. I am not sure why it was leaking, not broken and the gasket looked good. Would have been a lot easier of a job with a lift, let the tank down with a floor jack and then pulled the floor jack out and then had to roll the tank on its side to get it out.
