Fry's Electronics: 5.0 mp camera for $97!

Could you post some pictures taken with the camera?

Low light conditions if possible.

Thanks.

Be careful with that brand (Emprex). I recently bought a microstorage device of that brand, from Fry's btw, and before I opened the packaging I did a customer review search on the internet. Here's what the Amazon customers felt about this storage device:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00070IMGC/002-1339838-4030438?v=glance&n=172282

I noticed that Amazon no longer carries this brand. I returned the storage device before I opened it. (It was another seemingly incredible deal too, 4 GB portable storage for $99)

Here's what the Amazon reviews say about an Emprex camera, FYI:

Megapixels is just one aspect of digital cameras.

The lens is what gives you the photo. Megapixels is just how large the photo can be. I imagine they're selling a 5MP camera with the crappiest lenses and mechanicals you can buy. Enjoy your large low quality photos :(

To a certain extent... a cannon XXX camera for $100 will work just as good as a cannon XXX camera for $500. On the same note, I'd stay away from no name brands. I went cheap and bought an Akai 50" plasma for my entertainment room. Paid $2000 for it brand new, and I must say that I'm not happy with it at all. It works yes, but picture quailty is 2/5 stars. I ended up putting the TV in the guest bedroom and replacing it with a DLP projector. :D bigger is better

doghouse got the LCD, grrr!

Denny, remember the time you said to me: mi' casa, su casa! Need a guest?!?

Regarding the digital camera in question... for a few bucks more, there are some EXCELLENT 5 megapixels, reputable brand digital cameras available...

Ex: Fuji FinePix E510 5.2 megapixel (zoom: 3.2x optical, 4.1x digital), xD-memory, 2in LCD, USB-cable/cd/vcd/A-V_cable, Wide & Tele Lens adapter mount, etc...

$299.99 (MSRP)

$169.99 (Sale)

OR:

$139.99 http://shop.store.yahoo.com/mpsuperbuys/43860925.html

Phenomenal digital camera, for the money... I compared it to the Minolta DiMage E500, Nikon Coolpix 5600, Pentex Optio S50, Canon Powershot S500, and others w/ similar specs' (5mp, 3x, etc)... the Fuji actually was equal if not better than them all... best-kept secret around in the category of hobbyist/recreational use digital cameras...

Only down-side: size. It's avg. for a digital camera whereas a few of it's contemporaries are relatively compact & pocket-friendly.

.....and it operates on AA batteries. You will be replacing them all the time.

I just bought the Fuji FinePix. A great cheap camera.

Yea... it's image-quality, ease-of-use, and functions are just as good as the big-dawgs!

I can relate about the battery-killz... I carry (2) alkaline and (4) NiMH usually w/ me...

Vivitar has a few 5 megapixel cameras around the $100, sub-$100 range. I'd definitely look into those over the no-names. $100 is a $100. Gas ($) & time to go to and fro', might not be worth the hassle.

Next tier of digital cameras seems to be: Gateway, Kodak, HP, and Polaroid.

EDIT:

Speak of the devil...

Deal Finder

I believe this is a repost of sorts. If you really want to find deals on the www the only URL that total Geeks use is ROOSSTER. Just type in the field box, (try "digital camera") what you are looking for and the roosster finds the URL link. Unlike other deal search engines, roosster uses rss format: ie;

What is the Roosster?
The Roosster is a free service that wakes you up to the most interesting information on the web - direct to your desktop via the popular RSS format. Hence the name RooSSter. Get it? Hehe...

How is it different from all the RSS feeds available elsewhere?
The Roosster focusses on making information NOT available via RSS anywhere on the web, available through this wonderful format. The Roosster converts information available on the web in formats other than RSS - like HTML - into RSS for easy reading in a desktop RSS reader. It also allows you to create your own custom feeds based on keywords across ALL gathered feeds. Further, the Roosster also FINDS deals that are otherwise harder to find by scouring the web for the latest deals.

Well worth a bookmark/favorite.
