Front and rear wheel diameters differ in 91-01, but same in 02?

Why is it that the diameters of front and rear wheels in 91-01 (15/16, 16/17) are different by 1 inch, but same in 02 (17/17)?
What is the advantage of having two different wheel diameters or same diameters for front and rear? Why did 02 model go from 16/17 setup to 17/17? Shouldn't it be 17/18?
Does this mean that one can have 18/18 setup as long as the tire sizes are correct?

I have gone through old posts, and I saw that some people have put 17/17, or 18/18 in their cars instead of 17/18. Is it okay to do? I am a bit confused about wheel diameters for NSXs since all my previous cars had the same diameters front and rear.

If you could help me or direct me to a place where I should get more information on this, I would appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

The NSX is designed with smaller tires (narrower as well as smaller outer diameter) in the front than in the rear, even for the '02 with the same diameter wheels front and rear. This was done for several reasons - performance as well as intrusion into the passenger compartment - and is quite common on high-performance sports cars.

You can select any wheel and tire size you like for the NSX, but as a general rule, you will still want to select tire sizes that are smaller in the front than in the rear, for all the same reasons.

You might want to check out the discussion in the "Wheel Tech" and "Tire Tech" sections of the FAQ, as well as doing a search on previous posts here on the NSXprime forums. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Thank you, NSXTACY, as always!!
