3 liter V-10 motors were specified in F1 since 1995. Next season is a transition year to 2.4 liter V-8 engines. Detuned V-10s may still be used. This link discribes the detailed specifications for the V-8 motor, challenges for its developement and McClaren-Mercedes first test at Silverstone.

they should stick with v 10s or go back to v 12's

It doesn't get much better than the Current V-10's.

900hp and naturally aspirated.....damn!

I've heard through testing that the V-8's definately don't have the high end "torque" pull of the V-10's, but they are close on HP........above 800hp.

Again, why did the FIA do this? How the heck is a 2.4V-8 turning nearly 20,000rpm going to last longer than a BIGGER motor turning LESS rpm?

What they REALLY need to do is lower the downforce and make for more mechanical grip to make the racing closer.

You might want to read this rather sarcastic report on Max Mosley's press conference at Monza and recent FIA thinking about F1's future. This is a quote from Max: "We have an issue in Formula One with overtaking. We didn't realize how important that was to fans until recently."

I agree, the v-10's are the way to go. But they should have more overtaking in F-1. Hopefully they will be able to keep it alive and well.
