The Lotus was an Esprit Sport 350, from wikipedia:

The ultimate incarnation of the Esprit came in 1999 with the Sport 350. Only 50 of these were made, each offering 350 horsepower (as per the name) and various chassis and braking improvements. By this time the Esprit could reach 60 mph in well under 5 seconds, and weighed 1300 kg as a result of their hand laid fiberglass bodies. Lotus built only 50 of these.

I recieved the ticket this morning, at 6:15AM, in Fountain Valley, on my way to meet up prior to cruising to the event... My detector didn't emit any noise, and I didn't notice any police, until while pulling into the Starbucks I saw blue flashing lights behind me. I had downshifted to make my turn, so I thought he was going to complain about my exhaust, but when I rolled my window down he said I had been speeding. I was not conscious of speeding, but the police officer claimed the car next to me, a Jeep SUV, was going 59mph according to his laser. I handed him my registration, license, etc. and he seemed set to give me a warning, but a short time later a second police officer showed up, and they talked behind his car - the second officer claimed to have hit me with a laser near the freeway (approx 1.5 miles down road), and his gun read 66mph - all I can say is I was driving with the flow of traffic (the Jeep), I suppose the speed is possible, but kind of a bad start to the day.

FWIW I was on-time to the meet up location.

The PAG meet itself was nice, we had a line of nsx's, and an Enzo backed up to us, other highlights were the Countach, meeting new nsx owners, and the cruise over (not including the 'incident', of course)

Update, 03/15/07:

I fought the above ticket by mail, and suprisingly got this today:

The speeding ticket has been dismissed

Hell YEAH!!!!
I am so happy for you. That incident was a true classic moment for me and Matt. I felt really bad.

I have to say, I've fought through 6+ cases in the past year, and dimissal from written declaration is rare in SoCal from what I've experienced/heard/seen. In some cases, it seems any written declaration is returned with an automatic guilt verdict, which forces you to go through trial de novo.

Anyways, Congrats!
