This is just a tip for those with the wings west kit rear spats. I have noticed that the rear spats seem to collect water and dirt because of its design. I would recommend that you drill a hole towards the inside of the rear spats, where it's unnoticable and can't be seen by others. Just thought I'd let you in on what I found out. Make sure your hole is big enough to drain out the water and dirt, and so it won't get clogged.

Yep, I drilled mine twice!! First just a bunch tiny holes, but then it got clogged up. Now the holes are as big as a quarter

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to see where people put the holes for the rear spats. I figure you can put them in two places:

1) In the wheel well area inner part at the bottom, face thats "parallel" to the tire
2) At the bottom part of the spat on the inside portion, face thats "parallel" to the ground.

So one option would be on a vertical face at the bottom and the other option would be on a horizontal face.

I am not sure which would hide the hole more (assume the one on the horizontal would drain slightly better but think it should be fairly negligible) I was looking for opinions and maybe some pictures prior to drilling holes in my spats.

What size bit did you guys use as a final size, 1/4", I plan on drillng a pilot and working my way up in size?

Thanks,

Carl

92NSX,

which side did you put your on? can you notice it? what size?

Either one of you got a picture. Since I am going to drill this I want to make sure I pick the best spot, and also try and get the size as small as necessary. I put my hand up there today after I ended up in some rain and yes it has a puddle of water and some sand at the bottom.

Thanks again,

Carl

The best place I found to put the hole was on the inside corner near the tire. I used a 3/4" hole saw bit to let the water out. I'm sure 1/2" would probably be a good size, too. But anything smaller and it can get clogged up with rocks and debris that get scooped up by the tires.

If you drill anywhere else other than close to the tire, then the water doesn't properly drain since it will not be at the lowest point of the spat. If you drill it exactly onto the corner, it will barely be noticeable. Almost anywhere in that corner, you really have to look for the hole to spot it.
