Fog/Turn signal HID

Well I thought I was clever and decided to put HIDs in the fog lights of the turn signals. Little did I know the HIDs got too hot and started to melt my turn signals after I hit some bumps and moved the bulb around in the housing. So now I have two warped turn signals, still functioning, but a bit frosted.

Anyone else have a the same issue? Looks like I need another set of turn signals.

HIDs take longer to turn on then a standard bulb they don't make good blinker, markers, turn signals whatever you want to call them. The lens is glass. I would try to take them apart and remove the plastic diffusers and see if you could get them to look good / different. Thats what I would do at this point what do you have to loose. I removed the yellow lens in mine to get the full clear look. It can be done. Take some picks. Is it completely melted or just distorted?

Or you could try this http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showpost.php?p=989761&postcount=14

HID getting hot?? Is that real HID, I thought of that too and I don't think the real HID emit any heat at all...

LOL put your face by them when they are on you can fell the heat. The housing he is trying to use is not designed to dissipate that kind of heat. So it gets trapped and builds in the housing. Its a good thing it did not catch fire

The Tint idea might be a decent cover up until I get replacements ones. Thanks for the idea. Here are pics of the meltage. As you can I meant the actual fog lights that are always on, not the inner turn signals.

Here are some pics of the actual lighting with the HID in the fog housing they were not designed for. It was pretty damn good lighting. I could see very well with these lights alone, no need for the popups unless I got on the interstate. It's a shame really, I'm still interested in getting HIDs to work with these housings.

HID's get very hot. The ballast's only draw 35 watts but believe me that capsule gets blistering hot.

WoW-- I thought the lens was glass, must be some kind of plastic to melt like that. Good thing you car did not burn up!

I was thinking LED..... Opps... it's too early in the morning, my brain didn't function right.

Looks like you need another set of bumper lights...

Yea, they are called High Intensity Discharge for a reason. Although, I heard that they run a bit cooler than halogens. Either way, I do need a set of new turn signals. If anyone has a spare set for sale, let me know.
