After a whole weekend with the car (not much time…) – thought I’d offer my thoughts.
A big thanks, again, to porsche37 who pointed me to the dealer where I got the car.
First – I highly doubt I’m the target market the Honda execs were thinking of. I’m not independently wealthy and have never owned a Ferrari, Lambo or even an Audi, but I’ve been a fan of Honda for 25+ years. I’ve never spent $50k on a car….much less six figures.
Driving: This thing is a blast. It’s a 3-in1 car as you switch through the different driving modes. You don’t get much tamer/Accord-like than in the ‘Quiet’ mode and Sport + and Track release the inner beast 100%. Whether you want to disappear at a stop light or bring obnoxious attention to yourself is completely under your control w/ a flick of the big switch in the middle. I have NOT tried launch mode yet…. To say this thing is quick is an understatement – giving it gas in the right mode yields immediate gratification and a huge smile. The only comparable car I’ve driven was a C7 Z06 – whose speed somewhat scared me. The NSX gave me (eerily unearned) confidence it was going to listen to me from planting the rear end to managing twisties. On a spectrum b/t the S2000 (AP1) and NA1, the NC1 is amazing in that it has the go-kart tossability of the AP1 and the GT road-trip worthiness of the NA1. I love this thing (but won’t be getting rid of the NA1 or S2K anytime soon…).
Washing: Yes, I have a washing section. I wash my cars b/c it’s relaxing and no one else will do it as well. This thing has WAY more creases, crevices, corners and subtle shapes than anything I’ve touched. That almost undetectable indent on top….There’s almost sharp corners underneath the back hatch where glass meets metal – snagged the rags. Not a deal breaker…Lots of soap gets into the truck area (just the drain area – not carpeting). Again…not a deal breaker.
Complaints: Apple carplay was a complete train wreck. Music was skipping, response on the screen was slow, etc… so I gave it a 5-minute effort and gave up b/c I’d rather hear the engine. I’ll give it another shot when I have more patience. Maybe it was my phone, the cord, etc…
If you’re on the fence…I don’t see any reason not to take advantage of the current opportunities and have fun with this thing. I’m looking for local track memberships, now.
