I went to the Sepang F1 track today for my first track outing. Needless to say i was quite excited about it. I can't believe that my first track experience will be in the world famous Sepang F1 track. I will be testing the capabilities of my newly turbo'ed nsx.

When i got there with a group of friends who are track vererans, i did as i was told. Registered and paid the fees and i am set to go. All i had to do was pay (sign a disclaimer form) and wear a helmet and appropriate shoes.

I drove through the pit lane and out into the track very slowly. When i was out in the track i was very cautious, i didnt want my first outing to end with my wrecking my car.

After a few more laps i was more adventurous and step on the gas a little more. However, i still have no idea which line to take when to accelerate, when to brake and generally didnt know what to do. I guess i am just a bad driver. Coupled with the fact that i am overwhelmed by the ocassion.

Overall, it is a humbling experience. I used to think that i am quite a good driver but today's experience told me otherwise. Nevertheless, I had fun. I guess i should take advanced driving lessons to be able to appreciate track days more.

http://nasaproracing.com/ This is the club I do my High Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) with. There really is a lot to know in the classroom as well as on the track before we start pushing the limits of our cars on the track. Hopefully a club is there that offers a similar program.

...and so the addiction begins!

BTW I'm so jealous you can drive that track, its gorgeous!

Very cool. I was going to KL about once a year for a while but havent been there recently. Next time im out that way I will see if I can look you up.

So you finally got that turbo system set up and running?

I to should be having my first track day soon and i expect it to be quite an eye opener to the fact I'm not as good as a driver as i thought. That seems to happen to all new people to track days. By the way V8killer, I hope to see you at some NASA AZ events coming up.

Yup, the turbo kit is up and running but still need to be fine tuned a little. Took me lots of extra and uncessary effort to get it up and running because the vendor is MIA and not offering and support and after sales service. I am still waiting for some missing parts from him.

Do look me up whenever you are in KL. I have met quite a few nsxprimers both in KL and overseas. So far all of them have been great people. A fellow nsxprimer from USA who is a driving instructor with a SC nsx and 3.5 turbo'ed nsx is meeting up with me in KL in March 2010. So when is your next trip to KL?

I have to go to Singapore late Feb so maybe I will get my buddy to drive me up again.

I have been wanting to track my car but I always chicken out because I have no idea what I am doing. It was good to hear that you felt the same. I'm just going to have to jump in and do it. Hope to attend a driving school for my first track day.

Good post.
