After selling the old 920WHP beast last fall, we decided to get back into another NSX and refocus the build direction on this car toward total balance.

To start, the car is a 1991 with around 130,000 miles on the chassis. The motor is a stock 1995 unit with ~150,000 miles. The suspension pivot points had already been converted over to full spherical bearings(this is TitaniumDave's old NSX), so it was a great platform to start with. We then installed KW Variant 3's and StopTech's on all four corners. With the stock 150,000 mile motor and Toyo R888's, we then ran 1:48's at Gingerman's new configuration. Not too shabby.

July 4th weekend we were finally able to bolt on a LoveFab Stage 2 turbo system with a 67mm Billet Precision turbo. The kit is 100% production with no "special" tricks. We pulled it off the shelf and installed the kit onto the car. I should note that while the car is running the stock radiator, an external oil cooler was installed.

July 17th and 18th was the annual West Michigan Honda Meet which is a two-day event at Gingerman Raceway. We ran the car all weekend and did not have to lift a single wrench. Over 155 track miles in 90 degree heat and the car performed absolutely flawlessly. Engine temps never climbed above 205 degrees, even while running 11psi of boost(race gas).

We ended up with about a 1:43 lap time based on video, so it's good to know that the turbo system gave an improvement of ~5 seconds per lap.

We have a few plans for the car over the winter so stay tuned. I just thought I'd introduce you guys to the new car and also to Gingerman's new configuration up here in Michigan.

Glad you found another car Cody (and sorry I wasn't able to be of much help in your search down here).

5 seconds a lap is a HUGE improvement. Congrats! Look forward to reading more.

Hey guys, a buddy attended a Ferrari event at Gingerman. The new 458 lapped in at ~1:46(stopwatch). I understand that the Ferrari is a street car but so is the NSX with full AC and radio functionality.

I just thought I would share as this made me smile. :-)

Cody.... your NA lap time was a 1:48 ~ to the F458 1:46 tells me that the Ferrari driver sucked. I'm pretty decent with my car which is NA with JRZ 600/500 and Brembos and I can't keep with a GT3 with a good driver, so there is NO way I could hope to beat a F458 that is driven half-decently. BTW: I have a nice video of me keeping up with a Carrera GT but it says nothing about comparing the two cars.

Cody, I'm sorry but your buddy is full of crap.... this car isn't just good, it's freak'n fantastic. 562hp!!! I don't think even your shop NSX with the turbo would have a chance against a 458. Take a gander at the video, this car is the real deal.

If I had a $250k+ car I probably wouldn't push it either.

Mathematically the shop car, even on the stock motor, is making almost 550HP. I'm betting driver differences/pushing amounts resulted in the time differences.

I'm betting the Ferrari aero, F1 traction control, stability control and suspension would result in the time differences. I'm sure the shop car is quick, but the new 458 what I have read and seen in videos is a complete leap forward in technology. Only one way to find out.... I'll steal a F458 and we can meet up at Gingerman.

Car looks insane, what rear spoiler are u using that requires such an aggressive front splitter? Just curious.
The rear wing on the new shop car is fairly ginormous too, and the aero mods were already on the car when he bought it IIRC.
Still, proper front splitters do offer a lot of downforce for very little drag ;^D

Let me know when the contest is on at GingerMan, that's one I would love to see!

According to my buddy(who is a school teacher and has nothing to gain by spouting false information), the 458 driver said he was pushing 6/10's for the 1.46 lap. He was lapping 1:51's early in the day at a leisurely pace. A Z06 was running 1:50s consistently that day as well.

This means a good driver pushing the 458 would be in the 30's for sure. :) I by no means will even expect to post a faster lap with equal drivers, but I would love to run the two together!

I had timed open wheel Mazda's running 1:39's eariler this year FYI.

The NSX is extemely well balanced. I drove several cars during the WMHM meet(vides above) and couldn't pull any faster than 85mph through a the turn 8-9 high speed combo turns. Cars such as S2000's on sticky tires, would either push hard or become loose in the rear. The shop NSX was planted hard and as a result was able to hit 105MPH time and time again with my foot on the floor throughout the turn.

If anything I need more rear downforce so in all of my spare time(lol right!) I will work on a rear diffuser setup along with more under-body panels.

I was careful to avoid timing when the 458 might have to pass someone, my son and I had all afternoon, but the times I got were 1:57, 1:51, and 1:46. He may have been at 6/10ths but he was certainly revving it out (like a choir of angels...) on the straights and mini-squeaking those P-zeros on the turns (traction control was clearly on), making the old ferraris look like they were standing still. BTW, the Z06 ran two 1:50's and held its own against a few open wheelers, it really seemed like he was pushing it pretty hard, and a black 348ts ran 2:05 and a 2:02. I definitely want to run the miata next year, just to be able to see these cars close up (for a few seconds!) on track. I will also video tape complete laps next time we have a father/son day down there, sorry about that, timing was just a curious afterthought. And everybody there was extremely nice and friendly, no ferrari stereotypes at the track. Although the turbo type 996 911 wasn't too pleased about his engine locking up. Huge bummer.

Here is the problem I have with these numbers.... Cody said the shop NSX in NA form with KWs and R888s ran a 1:48. And you are telling me that a Z06 ran 1:50 pushing hard.

I have run against C5 Z06s and C6 Z06s and they are WAY faster than I am (my car is not stock - JRZs 600/500, Dali Track Bars & Nitto NT01s, TiDav Non-Comp F & R, Rigid Toe links, etc, etc). I can't keep up with any Z06 on the straights or in the turns for that matter. Hell, I can barely keep up with a regular C6 if it has a good driver. At Putnam Park, my home track, a C6 Z06 running NT01s is in the neighborhood of 1:16-1:17. My personal best is a 1:19.9 with average laps in the low 1:20s.

So I have to wonder about these times that are being thrown around. PS - I'm not exactly a shitty driver in my NSX either.

I'm simply reporting what was observed CL65, nothing more, nothing less. Also, I'm not sure if the Z06 was a C5 or a C6. I was very fast against a C5 Z06 (slicks and StopTechs) in all-motor trim though. Straightaway? No way in hell. In the corners? Definitely faster.

Did you happen to see the 911 Turbo that was caught in the above videos? It was far from stock, and on full Hoosier slicks. He's a member on here actually. In the straights, he was slightly faster when things got toasty with the NSX (5+ laps into the stint). When it came to braking and cornering, the NSX was much quicker.

To re-iterate, the NSX has Full Monoball suspension, KW V3's, R888 tires, Dali Front sway, no rear sway, full StopTech brakes, and the LoveFab Stage 2 Turbo kit. I honestly don't know how fast of a driver I am, but I'm assuming that I'm not exactly a "slow" driver. If I'm truly a "slow" driver than I must be able to build a hell of a car to mask the lack of skill.

Will you be at XPO this year? I'm pretty sure I'll be heading out there...never been to Vegas! Yes I'll be bringing the car...

Cody, I've watch your videos and you're car control is excellent.

I'm sure the NSX w/ turbo is smoking fast. I was just wondering about the times - that a NA NSX would be 2 secs faster than a Z06 (C5 or C6) on the track.

I may be at XPO just for the track day (without car).... depends on my Oct schedule which won't come out until Sept 13.
