 Well it happened Friday night when a new Acura sedan baited me into mashing the old pedal of my 91 NSX, and just at the wrong time. A State trooper was sitting behind a fence as we zoomed past an abandoned weigh station. It took him so long to catch up that at first I thought maybe he was sitting there doing paperwork, but alas - no such luck.
He talked to me so long about trivial crap that I thought he was going to let me go, but wrong again.
One thing he said was that my inspection sticker was expired, and it's not even a month old. I could say he was not very alert that evening - and if he was wrong about that, he could also be wrong about my speed.

Now I get to pay the price for being so stupid as not to be using my radar detector, and also for speeding around that sedan.
My detector just won't stay on the windshield with that little floppy suction cup mount. I'll have to fabricate one or ??? Any ideas from my new buds here?

Any clues on how to beat the ticket? No doubt it will cost, but just so it doesn't go on the record - no sweat!

Zap

From my experiences here on this board you will get no sympathy when it comes to tickets and how to possibly beat them. Good luck though if you go to court, look at the bright side, you could be like me and get a new one (3 points) just as your 2 pointer was expiring the next month!

Yep and rightfully so! The entire ticket thing is silly at times. Just a revenue method for the states. I once had a drunk in a big 65 Buick back in to my 61 VW Beetle, then he put it in drive and proceeded to drag me and my car down the street. I got out of my car as he was pulling it down the street (completely unaware of what he was doing) and walked up to his car, opened the door and reached in and shut it off. The cars both ended up on the sidewalk, and the cop that came to the "incident" gave me a ticket for parking on the sidewalk!!!
My uncle was chief of police at the time, and I asked him exactly how he found such bright cops as that officer. My Uncle took the ticket and tore it up.
Point is.. you can get a ticket for anything, no matter how ridiculous!

Played the game, paid the price. Iike they said, you won't get too much sympathy here on this board. If you want to go fast, take it to the track. From my point of view, I don't want you driving like that with my family on the road, or in my neighborhood. Good luck.

I also wonder why you are trying to "beat" the ticket.

You are guilty. End of story. Take your medicine like a man and pay up.

If you were racing on an empty interstate, I don't think this is so serious. You mentioned a weigh station, so I assume this was a highway and high speeds on those are not such a sin. That you were baited into it is slightly troublesome.

Strange. If given the opportunity to get out of a ticket, would you not try to?

99.9% of all drivers speed. Period! And cops are worse than anyone taking the family/friends out zipping 85mph down the interstate wearing street clothes. Speeding tickets are necessary, I know, but...more than anything...it is one more way to generate revenue.

There does seem to be a bunch of ticket Nazies here. Depending on how fast you were going over the limit, you can sometimes approach the prosecuting attorney and plead it down to a non-moving violation. Sometimes they will double the fine when doing this.

Good luck. And to the rest of you, try getting a piece every now and then  .

Dumb post.

This is not simply a speeding ticket. It is a ticket resulting from racing on the street, which many here disagree with, and rightly so.

Is it a racing ticket or a speeding ticket? If its a speeding ticket, depending on the speeds and where your from, you should just try traffic school.

Just hire a lawyer. There is almost no ticket that a lawyer cannot get you off of (my lawyer told me). I've had a few speeding tickets (70 in a 60 for all you ticket nazi's  ) that I got off by hiring a competent traffic attorney.

Yet again someone is asking for some help/advice and we have no idea where in the country or world they are from, from their post. That information might assist us in steering you on a good course to deal with this problem? Well, regardless, sometimes when you play you have to pay. Be thenkful you are apparently not in one of the states that impounds your car for going over a certain speed and recing.

LISTEN UP. some cops will cut you slack in court especially when you admitt to speeding. then you have a lawyer is also good. you cant win them all but go to court anyway, you might just get lucky and get a fine with no points.

exactly how many miles above were you going?

dang some of you people make this seem like 2nd degree murder, as usual. unless you were drunk, because then im with the rest of the nazis

in texas you can pay the ticket, be on probation for a month and the ticket will be dismissed. you can also do defensive driving. best case is to hire a lawyer, most likely the cop won't show up, and the ticket will get dismissed.

it also doesnt hurt to get a Valentine 1. I just purchased one yesterday

I too find it very odd how many ticket nazis are on this forum. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS fight any ticket you get, regardless of why you received it. Tickets for the most part are just revenue generating methods for towns and states. If enough people fight that it costs them more than they take in, maybe they'll get a clue (not that this will ever happen, but I do my part). Check out www.motorists.com for lots of info on fighting tickets, but if you want the best shot at winning, definitely hire an attorney. I received my first ticket in over 5 years on my own street a few weeks back, I'm awaiting my hearing date. If the magistrate doesn't want to let me off with a non-moving violation, then we'll be going to the judge and I'll subpoena everything including the issuing officers kitchen sink. I don't really care if I win at that point, I just want to cause them some grief and cost them some $$$. This whole thing is such a racket. Insurance companies (Geico is the worst) buy the cops their radar and lidar guns knowing they'll recoup their costs in insurance surcharges. Geico will even cancel your insurance if you admit to them you use a radar detector.

By 'worst', I meant as far as spending $$$ buying guns for the police, not necessarily the overall worst insurance company. I have no direct experience with them (they don't operate in MA because they can't get away with some of their tactics because of state laws here).

I can't get over some of these hypocrites... Like this one!

Hmm...I never saw this thread.

I have MUCH experience in VA with tickets.

Don't speed on the 267 Toll Road or I66. If you feel the need to go ballistic, choose 395 or the Beltway. I know everywhere the cops sit on 66 and most places on 267. They tend to congregate there b/c there are more places to hide.

However, 66 from 28 to Mannassas, you can open it up. Just be sure to watch in the median gaps.

I got off in Alexandria 95/55 with a $250 fine only. However, I hired an attorney. I've seen people jailed in Fairfax for that. Arlington is the best place to get busted because the prosecutors will talk to you freely. I've pled every charge down, to be honest. Plead to improper, pay the fine, always in Ckt Court on appeal. I cannot remember even showing up for a ticket date for speeding. Just not even worth the waste of time. I do a no-show, then offer to pay the District Court fine on an improper charge to the DAs. They only want to get their money, really. That's all any state particularly cares about.

My last ticket was the last straw for me, I bought a detector. Any advantage to stop the insanity in my area is a worthwhile. However though, I have started driving more like I'm being watch all the time unless i'm positive no one is around. I've had some lame ones (no turn on red and not fully stopped at a stop sign) that any rationally thinking officer would say deserves a warning. But because they needed to meet quota (oh yeah, i forgot, quotas are illegal... nevermind, they must just have wanted me dinero!) they wrote me up.

Also on another note, I really can't wait until the fraternal order of police calls me asking for a donation. They'll get one of two things, an ear full about how I think their "brothers" are a-holes, or a donation in return for a freebie pass (I can dream can't I?) for my next pull over.

You can say that all you want but it doesn't make it true.

Personally, I wish they would write more tickets. Lots more until the chuckleheads get the message that stop signs mean stop and the 20 mph limit in front of my house means there may be kids out there on a blind curve.

As for the highways (where I think this OP got his ticket) I'd just like to see some way to keep everyone traveling close to the same speed. If we could figure that out then it'd be quite safe to make that speed faster.

rush quote, right? even neal peart agrees with me :) (im currently reading his latest book where he's driving around in his BMW Z8)
