Well today was the second of two days of testing with a set of KW-V3's.
Track: Firebird Raceway West Track, 1.1 miles roadcourse
To start, they were replacing OEM shocks / Tein Springs.
First impression on the kit itself... VERY easy to install. Was happy the spec sheet came with recommended settings on height and valving. I installed the coilover at the minimum recommended height and recommended valving.
The car suspension wise has SOS swaybars and 235/275 F/R tires (NT05).
First things First, Saturday I hit the scales to check corner balance.
What was absolutely astonishing was that with me IN the car, the vehicles cross weights were exactly 50% and there was only a 10lb difference between the rear left and right tires. The fronts were equal.
That absolutely blew me away. I have never gotten that lucky with any previous coilover. Stoked, I jumped right on the track. At first the car started pushing real badly and that ended the day while I retired to the tweaking board.
Day 2, I returned with the front swaybar loosened up significantly and clicked the front dampers REBOUND valve from 7 to 6 and left the rears at 9, COMPRESSION at 1.5 all around.
Wow. I must say, the car came alive. I later competed in a class based Time attack series out here in AZ and came out with a 1.10 laptime which was middle of pack. WITH a near complete stop on track due to a miss-shift going into a 90 degree bend (Turn 5). Im confident there was another second scrubbed off in that turn which would have put my car in the top 3 for the class.
I ended up finishing 7th for my class and 14th out of 25 overall (three classes).
I was impressed with the first day out with the new suspension, and will continue to tweak and enjoy them! I hope to report back with better TA results next time!
Other than the suspension mods, this car has I/H/E and dyno'd 242whp on a Dynapack (a stock 91 with 16k dyno'd 219 on the same dyno to reference it).
Just thought i'd share my experience with these KWs. Two thumbs up! The car WILL get faster with time
