The guy I bought the car from said that he got the 60k maintenence done, and I had the car inspected by a local Acura dealership...everything checked out fine.

So I do the oil change, no problem. When I go to check the air filter, I cant get the bolts loose with my spinner...I start to think, uh oh. I break out the rachet, and open the air box up....and the air filter is F'n black! I am so mad right now; I'm thinking ok what else didn't the dealership check? Did I just get hosed?

On a good note, I did get 24 miles to the gallon the first time I checked it, so that's bound to go up!

Well then it's obviously time for a new filter. I would just go ahead and drop the money on a K&N drop in filter with the cleaner and oils. It will be your last air filter as long as you maintain it.

Yeah, I'll just stick to an OEM filter...until Downforce releases the full air intake.

Ok, so I jump through hoops to find a damn OEM filter (ok, I called 3 Acura dealerships) and picked one up. The car is happier, but the wallet isn't. The thing was $50!!!!! For a disposable air filter! I feel robbed.

Edit:

Nevermind, I am a moron. See Drew's post below.

He meant $35 for an AIR filter.

Never buy stuff from you local dealer, unless they are NSXPrime approved.

Otherwiese it IS a Robbery In Progress.

Unfortunately, the police won't respond OR take a report.

I don't think you got hosed, I think the previous owners did. When I bought my 93 2 years ago from the third owner I was handed a file cabinet containing every receipt associated with the car since delivery. We're not just talking dealership receipts but receipts from Wal-Mart, Autozone etc.. for everything from oil to wax to wheel cleaner.

According to the dealer receipts all the scheduled maintenance had been done on time. The car had 70,000 miles on her when I bought it. Shortly thereafter I took the car to Mike at MCA Motorsports for the timing belt/water pump work and we discovered that the car still had the original fuel filter and that the valve covers had never been removed to have the valves adjusted even though I had prior receipts showing the previous owners being charged for these items.

Unless you're willing to stand and watch them perform the service, never ever let a dealer service your car!
