And it was an incredible experience.

A few Saturdays ago was a private track day at Buttonwillow, and I ended up rolling out with RYU and illwillem. I was excited because it was going to be my first track day with the NSX. I've been holding out on putting on my coilovers because I wanted to track it first to get a baseline of it with stock suspension. The only mods done currently are the RPF1s with AD08 tires, Hawk Blue 9012 pads, Stop tech cryo treated slotted rotors, and fairly significant weight reduction (about 180 pounds worth). The NSX really shines on the track, and it is incredibly composed at high speeds. I was also impressed with the brake pads, giving me excellent braking feel and response throughout the whole day. The weight reduction was very apparent, especially when taking a passenger which negates all of the weight advantage and puts me near a stock car's weight. With a passenger in the car, I had to adjust my braking zones and I could really feel the extra weight shifting around. I think it was also very apparent due to the fact that the stock suspension is more floaty, so weight shifts are easier to feel. The tires felt great and I never had an issue with grip throughout the entire day.

I started the day running 2:35s and ended up cutting significant seconds off during each session, hitting a best of the day of 2:16.xx. Compared to my Prelude's best of 2:11.xx, it was impressive to see what a mostly stock NSX could do vs. my track prepped Prelude running R compounds, a car I've tracked for a long time and am very comfortable with. It just goes to show how much more potential there is in the NSX, and I am excited to explore its capabilities as I add modifications and more seat time.

I didn't take many photos unfortunately, as I was focused on other things.

It was fun seeing RYU and illwillem chasing each other around, the black car (RYU's) is supercharged, and the red car (illwillem's) is NA with many aero tweaks. I got to ride in the red car, and it was, in a word, amazing. He ran a personal best of 1:58.xx.

Sounds like a great day. I wish we had an actual track local to us but I will settle doing Autocross on our local short track oval.

Did you have fun? Hooked?

I'd recommend getting an NSX-R wing, even if you just run it to/on/from the track.

Glad to see more NSXs on track!

Absolutely hooked, I am now in a conundrum about which car to take to events now. I think I'll have to do every other event with the NSX, as to not leave the Prelude out in the cold :)

I actually have a Backyard Special wing coming in from Japan, although it might not be as functional as the Type R wing, I think it'll definitely help.

got an oil pan baffle? I would never track an NSX without one. no oil in turns is bad

Agree, but remember the NSX oil pan is designed for the stock performance. Per Honda, the pan is safe at up to 0.8G sustained lateral acceleration and "peaks" of up to 1.2G. Once you increase power (and thus speed) and/or traction by using R-comps or slicks, you push the lateral loads past the capacity of the pan. This is why I track on street rubber and stock power. Still lots of fun and my engine gets plenty of oil. At a minimum, R Comps = oil pan baffle. Mods kill lol.

Glad you finally got to bring your car out Phryxis, let me know the next time you make it out to Thunderhill.

I don't have one at the moment, good idea to get one though!

Interesting!

Yes, absolutely! I want to make the Blacktrax event an annual thing, so unless I have some prior commitment, count on that event!

Hell yeah, that was an awesome day. Cant wait to get back out there soon, its fun in any car that you bring,

Agreed!

you guys are bad influence  now I want to bring my NSX to the next event. Will, NCRC at BW April 12th?

I fail to see how that's a bad thing :)

I am down for birthday track day!
