Dear NSX Primers,

I just acquired a 1991 NSX with 27K miles. I would like to have the car thoroughly checked especially the transmission and clutch. I would really appreciate any recommendation for a NSX transmission/clutch specialist in the Bay Area. Thank you.

Congrats on the purchase. I finally bought mine September last year. 1991 with 43k miles. I had full service done with timing belt and all fluids changed at my local dealer.

There maybe some mixed opinions on this but when they changed the brake fluid they pumped the brakes instead of vacuuming the lines. This caused the master brake cylinder to go bad on me during a drive the following week. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Thank goodness I had room to stop when it failed. The master cylinder seals went bad because they were pushed deeper then normal. Brake Master cylinder was also on back order at the time in US and luckily dealer was able to allocate one from Japan.

Other then this hiccup the car has been awesome. My childhood dream car and its everything I imagine it would be. Still get tons of looks and thumbs up. So rare to even see them on the road. I drive it to atleast once a week.

Peter welcome to Prime! In addition to Don at Hill Top, another two elite-level transmission gurus closest to you are Shad Huntley in Sacramento and Nick at Applied Motorsports in Vista. Both would be able to give you a very good diagnosis on your transmission and clutch.

Welcome! You should post an intro thread with pics of your new NSX!

Applied Motorsports in Vista is a ways south, Honcho. Like San Diego away; unless I’m cross threaded which is always a possibility.
