Ferrari 360 Exhaust for NSX

Hey guys,

I remember reading something about a few folks who custom fabricated the 360 Modena exhaust on to the NSX. From what I read, the exhaust had a nice soft note to it. Really quiet at idle like ours but higher pitched at higher RPM's. These sound qualities are desireable to me.

How much fabrication is needed here? Do I take the OEM exhaust and weld in the Ferrari muffler?

Is this something any muffler shop could do?

Most importantly, will there be any reliability issues with this custom setup? I am extremely paranoid that something will catch on fire with this custom setup. :(

Thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate you guys with a lot of mechanical knowledge helping me out.

i have not heard of that. You are probably just better off getting a tubi.

I think Larry at NSX Modified fabricated some custom NSX exhausts that used 360 Challenge mufflers.

I do not think Larry is in business any longer.

NetViper, I would love to get the Tubi exhaust but I do not have that kind of money to allocate to an exhaust right now.

Is there anyone here who might know of some inherint dangers in a custom exhaust? Any reliability issues?

Thanks again.

Yeah, I know Larry and NSX M are gone but I was just saying he has made a few... so there are a few NSX's running around in them... (from what I've been told.)

I did a search on our forum and I found one guy with it. I PM'd this gentleman but he has not got back with me. I do not think he comes here anymore.

Powered, are you suggesting that it will take the expertise of someone like Larry(NSX specialist) to do such and exhaust? Or, do you think it does not matter that it is a complete exhaust and I can have Midas do it. I understand that there are quite a few people here that have the flowmaster exhaust custom made and have no problems. I wonder if the Ferrari exhaust would be similar in the difficulty of fabrication...

Thanks a lot guys.

Powered,

Thank you for the link. That is what I am concerned about as well...heat. I do not want a fire to start when I am driving down the street!

Maybe we are being fuddy Duddys? Paranoid?

I am not very mechanical so I do not know. Hopefully someone who has a bit of experience can shed some light on how safe these custom exhausts really are.

Are we playing with fire? :D

These pictures are from the last Drivers Edge at TWS in College Station, TX... It is my understanding that the car went off course, stayed a bit too long in the same spot, which allowed the hot cats to ignite the dry grass under the car.

HAVE YOU PRICED THE FERRARI PARTS YOU NEED? This may be more expensive than a Tubi.

Or you could put these monster exhausts ;)

Much like the NSX, there is not much demand for an old 360 exhaust. Thus you can purchase one for a tenth of what they cost at the dealer.

Ojas, those pictures are not inspiring me to mess with this exhaust!!! ;)

Tiger, those pictures are inspiring me to mess with this exhaust!!

Ferrari exhaust ---> NSX

hmmm, w/ time at hand I've contemplated some projects just for kicks...

Recently I was a given a Ferrari challenge exhaust by another 'Prime member. I am planning to get it fitted to my car, but of-course w/ some silencers. It was mentioned that there was another SoCal NSX'er that had done this. I was curious if they did this w/ one Challenge exhaust/muffler (can), or two "cans"? If anyone knows about this particular setup or the NSX'er who did this, please break on through!

*Also would there be any anticipated power-loss?

*Heat dissipation (?) issues?

I've also come across these other Ferrari exhausts that can be obtained, reasonably...

- brand-new 575 Maranello dual exhausts/mufflers (2can, not Sam :p)

- "new" 360 Modena exhaust

- 355 exhaust

Any thoughts on this? I'll add that I'm quite content w/ my OEM setup, and my neighbors adore me for that ;)... however I'd like to get a sound a bit different that what is mostly out there right now but still be civil & drivable... I like my CD's & convo's w/ passenger(s)

Really looking fwd' to some insights! =)
