Well, at IDRC in Phoenix here there was about 5 NSX's here (Bill's two, mine, Seth's, and another black one, oh ya, and Adam's drag NSX was here too)
But anyway, the Black one looked like a stock '93 5-speed. I thought it was just there for the show but I ended up seeing it line up against a 1999-2000 Accord, I looked closer only to see a female driver and a child seat in the passenger seat.
Ok, well anyway, she goes and.......15.09 at 90 something MPH. Atleast she beat the Accord
(Sigh)...What do ya guys think?

They should give her another run with the child's seat out. They're pretty heavy you know.

They Didn't....Except Adam's probably did, but unfortunately I didn't see the run. If he did, probably somewhere in the high 7's.
The fastest car I saw run was a new Beetle...8.55 at 170 MPH!!

Not rare in my household -- my daughter loves to ride in the NSX. She likes it because it goes "really fast"

. I checked with Acura about the airbag safety issue, and they said that if the seat is all the way back it should be OK, as the passenger airbag blows more up then out -- fully inflated, it doesn't quite reach the carseat. Or so I'm told -- never actually seen one inflated.

Hi everyone! That was my NSX with the child seat in it at IDRC, I didn't race with the child seat in the car, we took the child seat out of the truck when we went out to have lunch, and I ran a 15s because I slow down after seeing the accord red-lighted. And I did have fun!

Yvonne,
You go girl !!!
Glad you had fun, I drag mine and love it as well. Both my children love to go to the track. If you like the strip wait till you try a road course.
IMO leave the seat in, It makes for a great story !!!!!!

Thx for the support guys! I had my NSX for two months now, I brought it to the track twice including the IDRC event. My best time so far is 14.223 @ 97.05mph. Is that bad for a stock NSX? What do a stock NSX usually run on 1/4 mile? I'm new at this, never race before I bought my dream car. But I'm planning to have Mark supercharge it with his BBSC.

Hey times not bad! I believe that stock 13s are the norm, post your time ticket, rt 60ft and so on. I run low 12s and with the new clutch and practice will be in the 11s. oh ya on drugs as well.
Don't know about the seats but they look great.
Good Luck

Am I missing something?

Here in Ontario it is outright illegal to put a child under 12 in the front seat of any car. Airbag or not. I understand that the dealer said that you "should be ok" as the airbag does not go "all the way" to the seat, but seriously, considering that "the dealer" is often responsible for many of the post-servicing problems, Im shocked that people would put their childs life if the hands of someone who thinks that it "should be ok".

If your kid gets smacked by the bag, its game over for them, and possibly you to. I would say that there would be a good manslaughter case against the driver.

I do not mean to be inflammatory, but I can not believe that people have thought this through and still choose to drive a child in an NSX. Now, removing the airbag would be ok I guess if its legal in your district.

If Im way off, please let me know.

As far as I know it is not illegal to have a child under 12 in the front seat. It is illegal to not have them in a child seat, at least in Florida.
I looked at the instruction sheets that came with our child seats and they sudjest the back seat center of the car and insist you do not place the seat in the front seat with the child facing the seat. but say nothing about not properly installing the child seat in the front.
You bring up a good point, how about a switch to disengage ps air bags in two seat cars?
I am sure anyone that drive the NSX and had a child in the seat does so very carefully. I know I do.
BTW my NSX has no passenger side airbag, but would still seat belt my child properly in the front seat.
IMO.

I transport my daughter to daycare a couple times a week in the NSX. Can't really tell if she loves it or not b/c she's sleeping 10 seconds after I place her in the car seat. But she has yet to cry so that's saying something I guess. If my car were equipped with a pass. side airbag, I'd have some concerns but since it's not. . .I'm cool with it.

In Oklahoma, it's illegal to put a child under 80lbs in a car w/o a car seat. Front or back. Now I don't think I hit 80lbs unitl I was in the 5th grade. Man, how embarrassing would that have been. 10-11 years old and still in a car seat! Yowza.

You're way off. First off, it wasn't "the dealer" who told me it was OK -- it was "Acura". Yes, I called them about it. I wouldn't trust my dealer as far as I could throw him, but if Acura themselves say it's OK, I'm OK with that.

You're also way off if you think I haven't thought this completely through before letting her ride in the car. I've checked all the relevant resources, got the OK from Acura, measured the distant from where the airbag would inflate to the car seat, and so on. The only thing I haven't done is stick a crash-test baby in the seat and drive my car into a wall.

While it may be illegal in Ontario, it is not illegal in California for a child to ride in the front seat (appropriately restrained). And let's not give the California legislature any ideas, shall we? There's enough laws out there restricting our freedom and personal liberty already.

The bottom line is, fully inflated the airbag doesn't reach the car seat (with the seat all the way back). It blows more up than back. And like Yvonne said, it's not like we're racing with the kids strapped in. In normal driving conditions I consider my NSX the safest of my three cars, and thus my daughter is best protected there.
