I just picked up the June 03 edition of Sport Compact Car Magazine, and they have the 2003 Ultimate Street Car Challenge entry contestants. There are 82 cars, and the 1st one on the list is this NSX, thought it was interesting and wanted to know if anyone knew the guy.

----------

Smack Talk:
It's the fastest street NSX in the world (1KHPNSX) and any Ultimate Street Car Challenge would be illegitimate without it!

Well, if anyone wants to pick it up it is the June issue of SCC and the NSX is on page 126. No body kit or anything from what it looks like, just lowered with some wheels. Nice!

By the way, they also analyzed all the cars from 2 Fast 2 Furious, too bad they forgot the NSX :(

1993 Toyota Supra Turbo
1999 Skyline GT-R R34
2002 Mitsubishi EVO VII
1993 Mazda RX-7
2000 Honda S2000
1969 Yenko Camaro

They went through these cars to see how fast they really were, and then they did a article on the stunts and behind the scenes.

Its probably that black one that runs low 11's all day. Isnt he a member here somewhere and had those tight videos you could download of his car? Has the JGTC rear hatch and a wings west looking spoiler.....

Nah, its a 92 Red with Black top.
The wheels are black, and it doesn't have a hatch and the body is totally stock.

Black one is Gerry's, Silver one with Comptech body kit is David's, red/black one is news to me...

If it fairs well, maybe someone can run the numbers by C & D magazine. Anyone remember their super car shoot out @ Michigan Int. Speedway last year. What a joke that was. Would rather see another NSX with bigger balls if they do that again!

didnt nosnsx sell his 3.3 motor in the nsx parts forum several months ago, all the internals sound very familar to that thread.whomever bought it may be the 'guy"

you would think someone that put that kind of time on the car would be a member here??

With 1,000hp? I'd say it'd have traction problems and probably stay in the 9's. He's only running 285's in back. But who cares about drag racing? ;)

I'd like to see how fast he is on a road course! Let's hope he makes he final cut. For once I'd like to see the NSX get some good press. I wonder who did his turbo system?

I don't doubt that someone could get 1000HP from an NSX engine, the strange thing is I've heard people that supposedly know what they talk about saying that over 500HP would shear the axles off or explode the tranny. Now obviously David & Gerry disprove that theory, but I mean come on, can a stock tranny and axles etc. really handle almost 400% of the design power? Sounds unlikely to me. I can remember old muscle cars cranked up to 450 or 500HP throwing drive shafts and spitting rear ends onto the street! Sure there was less technology involved but they weren't worrying about weight too much either, I mean that is heavy duty thick steel. So I don't know, but it just sounds hard to believe. Also, in drag cars the tires absorb a lot of the torque, you can see it when the top fuel cars take off, its kind of like a torque dampner. But with low profiles like on an NSX, theres nowhere for the torque to go besides the drivetrain or losing traction.

Lastly, I had maybe 375 to 400HP (guessing) from my car when NSXM had put in 440's and was inadvertently running .7 bar which is about 10.5 PSI. Now of course my car is a "T" so the body and frame is less solid they say. But when I would nail it the frame or whatever would flex BIGTIME I mean it felt like the back axles were swinging out, very strange. In other words, with 2 to 3 times more juice than THAT, I can't imagine that some BIG disaster wouldn't happen!

Yeah I know! Sorry I forgot to add you guys on the list of "disproving the theory". I am just amazed by these things is all!

Well this one isn't us, but the owner is definetly one the "pioneers" of modifying the NSX and is really a nice guy. We wish him all the best.

I'd love to see this NSX dogfight against some of the high power Supras and RX7s in the lineup. For all the SCC subscribers, please vote for this car, we will see what it can do.

Looks like he bored it out to 3.3 liters and resleeved it for strength. The SCC issue barely makes note of the USCC competition. Instead an exclusive on 2Fast2Furious takes center stage. That sucks. Ever since Super Street went bonkers on ad pages, SCC has gone their route. Still, I'm voting for this car, the Metro, and the silver Ultima. Should be a good contest.

Underperforming 2F2F cars

Did anybody take a close look at the 2F2F cars in the article? I was surprised to see that most of them were running 0-60 in the mid-6s, including the supposed 600hp Supra. As I recall, the fastest import there was the S2000, which was running in the mid-5s. Were they babying these cars, or were they quoting over-optimistic power numbers?

I think during some of the reviews they mention how hard the cars were driven and how much they were beat-up on for the filming. They also mentioned how many cars survived the filming (Ex: There were 5 or so Supra's and 3 are still driveable).

It probably has to do with being driven to the limits scene after scene, and I can imagine they shoot scenes multiple times too. Also, the cars don't look all that spectacular in the first place and probably weren't tuned correctly among other things. The article even said they were afraid to do the slalom test because of horrible alignment issues and beat-up suspension.
I dunno, I guess they were just driven to death, or close to it and nobody really cared or bothered to look after the cars. They just needed them for the movie and that was it.
I think the #'s were quoted too high also.

Maybe it was a good thing they didnt test the NSX....

They posted the (stock numbers) NOT after mods.

Read the article, no they didn't.

This guy's turbo setup looks awesome. How come I don't remember this post before? :) I'd love to see a dyno plot.
