Fast Idle valve - is there an adjustment?

Okay, I've read the manual and did a search on "Fast Idle Valve" and didn't find much. The manual tells (chapter 11, page 83) me the fast idle is factory set. I'd like to adjust the idle down a bit when the car first starts up. Seems like it just idles way too fast when it's cold. Is there a way to lower the cold start idle?? Thanks in advance.

I could show you where the idle adjustment is by sending you a picture, if you like. From the factory, there is a plug over it so you ca't mess with it.

However, as far as my experience goes, the cold start sequence in the ECU is pre-programmed for a certain rpm during warm-up so if this is what you are trying to change, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Out of curiosity, why do you want to change it?

Are you saying that there is not a way to adjust the startup proceedure or the idle?

Have never done this and was just wondering which it is.

The reason I would like to adjust the start up speed it is because when the engine first starts up, it's too fast. I'd like to have it start at a slower speed to let the oil have a chance to start lubricating.

I wouldn't mess with the start up speed as I'm sure the engineers knew what they were doing on a proceedure as basic at that. Besides I don't believe we've ever heard any problems with engines because of start up speed. If you are truly concerned about engine lubrication, you might want to invest in one of the pre-start lube devices that has been previously mentioned in these formums. JMO

Litesokneecough,

What is your cold start RPM?... and what would you prefer it to be? (Just trying to see if you have a real problem or if you're talking about the "normal" cold-start rpm.)

As Chuck posted, I'd trust that Honda chose the cold start rpm with oil circulation at the forefront of their mind!

Where are you at in Central CA. Just curious, I grew up there.

Kpond,
My start-up idle is 1500 rpm. I'd like it to be about 1000 rpm, but as everyone mentioned, Honda engineers took every thing into account when they designed the start-up procedures. So, I won't attempt to adjust the start idle.

Central California to me is Merced. See ya!

Could you send me a picture or post the picture if where I can adjust the idle?

TIA,
