Failed A/C Control Panel (Guess)?

Dear members,

Hope someone can give me a more solid diagnosis on possible break down of the A/C control panel.

The symptom was as follow:

1. When the a/c started, it wasn¡¦t cold enough due to the hot weather. The fan speed was then turned to maximum.
2. The fan couldn¡¦t slow down after a minute when I turned the dial back to low.
3. Afterward, the control panel display was gone and no more wind coming out.
4. The entire a/c system shut down.
5. The entire process only took a few minutes.

Took it to garage and they made a few trials to get the unit back on but it failed again. After reading some other posts from other members, knowing that it is possible of the capacitors problem.

Unfortunately, I cannot source all 13 capacitors in Hong Kong to replace all (only 2 were replaced with the same temperture of 105C). I¡¦m going to order all 13 capacitors from Digikey as recommended by other members and replace all.

Can anyone give me a more solid answer that the above description of unit failed is caused by the capacitors problem or possible other cause?

Appreciated anyone comment!!!

My A/C was in perfect working condition yesterday. I turned it off this morning and I tried to turn it back on in the afternoon and everything was off. No light. It is like it blew its fuse. I checked every single fuse in the car and they are all working. Not sure if it is the board.

nsxtypet, it sounds like you are on the right track with the control board. However, that doesn't really explain it not blowing cold. You could have a leak in the system also OR one of the condenser fans has blown a fuse.

Good luck

Turning on and off was exactly my simptoms. Some people have had success with the 13 cap replacement. Some - like me - have not and had to purchase a new board for less then $700 discounted.

Unfortunately I spent $100 on the fix to find out it didn't work for me. :(

Thanks!

The reason it was not cold enough is because the temp. was 33C that morning.

Normally, it is cold!!

I am keeping my fingers cross and hoping that my TV repair guy will able to find all 13 capacitors and replace them all plus clean up the leaked stain from those old capacitors.

I had the garage guy replaced only 2 capacitors earlier but it still doesn't work after a trial today!

I hope I don't need to order a brand new panel!!!

Thanks to all members!!!

Me too

Mine is doing the on-off routine as well, I am pulling it out and sending it off to Languth Electronics to try the $100 fix before shelling out $700. Thanks for all the board chat on this so at least I dont spend hours trying to TS it.

Seems like they all will fail at some point.....

My tech talked directly to the MFG of the caps and they were never designed to meet the temperatures they would see in an NSX parked in the hot summer sun over a period of time. I believe they are rated to 100 deg F and we all know how hot (especially a Onyx) car can get in the sun.

Did your A/C panel just went off completely? As for mine, even the buttons such as the circulate and recirculate don't light up. I thought it was a main fuse that caused it, but I can't find any fuse that control the panel.

Yes - off completely. Sometimes when I started the car it would come back on but it would always turn off.

Did your just went off without any other problems or warnings? Mine was working perfectly and I turned it off and couldn't turn it back on a few hours later.

So changing those caps. didn't work for you? I don't know what to do. How much is the board and do you have the part number? Did you replace the whole unit or just the board inside?

Did you install it yourself? Is there good instructions on this site to remove the center console?

I just got the car and am spending way too much money on it....

Nick, thanks for the info. I feel your pain. I called the local (scal) dealer and they don't sell the board by itself. They sell the complete unit with the display. Is that what you got? Is it still available for $587 from Cush Acura?

I went though Dali Racing as that was the only way to get the discount. www.DaliRacing.com

You can check with the other Acura discounters as well.

Dear Members,

Bad news.

I had all 13 caps replaced and ran a trial again. All I got was high speed wind (better than nothing at all). No display what so ever. Can't control wind speed, no temperature displayed. Display remained black!

Anybody has anymore suggestion what might be wrong with the unit?

My TV repairman said that probably the CPU of the control unit is gone and I need a new unit.

Comments are welcome!!!

Poor NSX-T :( :( :(

Yep - exactly what happened to me. Bad news - I had to buy a new climate control board (you don't need the face plate - just the board). Good news - it fixed my problem.

Good luck. I don't know what % of boards can't be repaired but definately not the only 2 I have heard of...

Are there any caps. on the display unit? I am wondering why the board on the back would cause the front display to go blank?

Got a quote from the local dealer for the board on the back. It cost $840. I think they called it climate control computer or somehting. The fron display cost $1200.

I can't believe Honda made such a crappy boards on this high end car.

just replaced all the caps on the board and still nothing works. There is clear indication that some of the caps were bad because of some brown discoloring on the board. However, everything is still off.

I guess there is some other chips that also go bad on the board.

I'm giving up to repair my unit and have just placed an order of new climate control unit and the computer complete set from my good Japanese friend with (NSX-R) from Japan directly since I am afraid that the computer unit will die soon when my car is getting close to 10 years old!!

The complete set should cost me $790 (excl. S/H)!!

Is that price for the board only or it also include the complete digital display unit which connect to the board?

The price is for the entire new unit for both the climate control unit (not just the board) plus the computer unit (black module) behind the climate control unit!
