Factory anti-theft system went crazy(?)

I picked up my 91 NSX with the factory anti-theft system (*not* keyless entry) about a week ago. Today the system started to act up. Everytime I turn the key on the driver's side door to the right to unlock, the alarm will start going off.

To shut off the alarm, I have to wait one second, turn the key to the left, wait another second, turn the key to the right, then the alarm shuts off.

To cope with such issue, I disconnected to horns so it doesn't annoy residents nearby everytime I decide to unlock the car.

Is there a fix for this issue? Is it a common problem? Please help, thank you. The only work I have done on the car today is that I removed the (2) rear hatch struts and the (2) trunk struts (sent them out to get them rebuilt).

The FAQ is your friend. I have the same problem, and I haven't had this TSB done yet......

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Troubleshooting/antitheft-keyless.htm

"The factory alarm should not be set off by unlocking either door with the key. The TSB describes a problem caused by corrosion of the contacts of the anti-theft door lock switch, along with a 1.7 hour per door procedure for replacing it. The parts required are (left switch) 72154-SL0-A01 and/or (right switch) 72114-SL0-A01 along with 72137-SS0-001 (clip). Service Bulletin # 93-007 is a little involved because you have to take apart an electrical connector and if you don't have the little tools you could mess something up."

Here's a link to the TSB:

Hope this helps.

Thank you!

How much do the parts run? And also, is there a way that I can disable the factory alarm until I get the work done?

Thanks, Jerry.

About $110 for the part. I would say 1-2 hours on the labor. The door panel, door lock, and rear window track must be removed and it is important to do it properly so you can easily align the window again.

Hi Larry!

Thanks for the prices, I'll probably have the dealer do it for me. Also, I forgot to mention on my previous post that I have a keyless-entry system on order. I take it that this system will "band-aid" up the fix asssuming that I wont be using the key, correct? Thanks, Jerry.

Jerry,

You are exactly correct. I never had the keyless until recently, so mine was a real pain. A good friend had the keyless, and he never noticed it until one day I used his key!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;).

The keyless system is a pretty straightforward install, BTW.

Hey There! I checked out the TSB and also tried the write up instructions on how to disable a faulty alarm by disconnecting the HOOD switch. I did that but still has the same problem. I was wondering if you had any additional ideas?

Thanks, Jerry.

What's the cost on the keyless entry until for a 91 and how much to install? I saw on the parts for sale section today that there was some sort of adapter that needs to be purchased to make it work as well. Is that correct and what is it?

The write-up is wrong. Disconnecting the hood switch disables the hood, not the alarm. To disabled the alarm, you must short the disconnected connector - I recommend the hood, because shorting the trunk connector disables the trunk light.

Use a paper clip and short out the hood connector than wrap it in electrical tape.

Apparently, there are many sources of info:). In another thread I had also heard about the availability, or lack there of, of the keyless entry system for 1991-1992 models. I called my source and commented the same thing: NLA

However I was informed after that Gold Coast Acura had access to about 40 units. I called and $230 at my door, and now installed I have my keyless entry. So call them and you can probably still get it for 1991-1992. It is not the $184 it used to be, but it is available:).

Install was about 1.5 hours, it was the first time I installed one, did it real slowly, not trying to break any records.

So should be less for an experienced tech to do it. Basically take out the glove box and bolt it in and connect it.
