How can I tell if the car has an OEM alarm (or remote keyless entry system)?

The previous owner told me that the car did not have the remote keyless alarm, but there is a sticker on the driver-side window that says "Equipped with Acura Theft Deterrent System", and the red light blinks whenever I lock the door. I wonder whether the previous owner simply lost the remote.

Tiger740,

Sounds just like my '95. :) And it never had a remote either.

Just lock you car with the window down. You'll notice the light near the top door look starts blinking. Reach in and push the unlock button near the interior door latch. I'm sure you'll get confirmation of an alarm after that. :D (Oh, and cover your ears too.)

Thanks, Fury (love your avatar - fits the aggressive image of your car :D ),

Btw, suppose that the alarm is there and it goes off, how do I turn it off without the remote??

Thank you.

Hey Guys,

The alarm system is actually separate from the keyless entry system. To shut off the alarm insert the key in the door and move it to unlock.

Tiger,

The sticker you refer to imforms the prospective crook you have an alarm :).

Oh, thank you.

So I suppose that I don't need to get an aftermarket alarm after all!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the factory alarm has a starter kill switch like most after market alarms. If this is the case, then that would be a good reason to get one. I paid $300 for my Alpine alarm.
