The U.S. Grand Prix is back. Austin, Texas will serve as the host city of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix from 2012 through 2021 in a purpose-built facility.

News of the U.S. Grand Prix coming to Austin, Texas is a surprise to anyone following F1 and its attempt to find a racing home in the United States after a three-year absence. There's no race course in the Austin area up to specs, so one will be purpose-built just for Formula One.

That is Crazy. I have a hard time believing it and don't trust Bernie! How can you have a track ready in 2 years?

Should be great. Maybe this is a drug deal between Rick Perry and Bernie! Several miles of the tollway on the east side were built in a couple of years; I figure the north east side may be the right location. Perhaps it will be a city course through downtown???

I was at the 1983 US GP at Dallas which was in fair park. Hot as hell, saw about 200 feet of the track where I stood, missed Nigel Mansell push his car across the finish line and collapse.

I will be at the races, if it comes to be.

the real deal...

Does anyone even know anything about these peeps (): www.fullthrottleproductionslp.com

Perhaps TxChopperGuy can chime in regarding "Full Throttle Productions, LP", as he's closely involved w/ ROT Rally & other similar motorsport/event stuff.

Need help looking for a small home in the Austin area...lakefront or lake view preferred.
Fastrunner, as-per our convo's - this below is the real estate company of my friends Robby & Farrah (she's also the local-area real estate consultant to the local-area network news!). They both have been bringing to my attention all those sweet pads in great areas & (at times) at nearly unbelievable prices that I've told you about! They truly are very, very knowledgeable & proficient for what it is that I & you seek.

Ojas & Ko-nsx have been clients of theirs, as well.

Next time you're in town, I'll get you intro'd to Robby & Farrah. They already know about you & your ambitions! :D

I am just guessing here....how about a modified street course of sorts. A-la Monaco. I think that would be pretty cool and don't think it needs 2 years. Just a few bits of construction here and there, and collapsible stands.

Now we just need to get Honda back in the F1 scene. (hey I can dream can't I!)

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe at the old airport; I don't know if downtown would work.

When I opened up the paper that morning I about fell out of my chair! Let out a big whoop, but at 7:30 few heard it in my office. Still can't believe it. I've got to wonder whose deep pockets are going to pull this off - I want to give 'em a big hug!

I went to Indy in 2004 for practice, qualifying, and the race and was blown away by the sound. 20 cars lining up for the start warming the tires; 22,000 rpm sounds like a herd of banshee elephants. Too bad they now only turn about 18K. I made a video but only got mono sound - better than nothing I guess. Let's hope we get to drive on the track after it's been around awhile. Three years is more realistic, but who knows? Put some folks to work and let's get to it!

All you skeptics !
The promoter has the credentials of driving a Formula Ford. Sponsored too.
We have two whole years. The universe was created in 7 days.
Lots of time.
Bernie is the ultimate square shooter. Just ask the folks at Donington.
Did you know cash grows on trees down here ?

What, Me worry ?
