It has been a long 5 months since Suzuka. If you have speed channel, it is going to be live on March 6, 2004 at 6:30 pm PST.

I can't wait. Anyone care to make predictions on this race and the season as a whole? There is some speculation that there could be 5 teams with a chance to win each race (Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Renaul & BAR). I would love to see a real competive season. I have to admit, last year was MUCH better than the previous year. While I love Ferrari & M. Schumaker, I'm ready to see someone else win (Raikoinen, Montoya, Ralph, maybe even Alonso).

yup.... and when you guys are watching it on TV, think of me, coz i live only 20mins away from the track -- i can hear the engines screaming.

New season doesn't look like it?

So far it looks like another Ferrari freight train, or everyone is being very conservative because of the new engine rules. Let's hope they close up Michael's 1+ sec lead in the 2 Qual sessions. With the engines rules, I think we are going to see a lot of grid changes.

Let's also hope that Honda got rid of all the "grenades" in winter testing. Sounds like they had several cases. Button looked really good, until he parked it. Hope it was the tranny and not the engine.

Very competitive! Beside Ferrari, hat is on another planet, only Renault did better but only by a small margin!

Too bad that the british driver broke the engine at the end of the session and he could be punished with 10 postions back at the start... this is the new rule for this year. ... :(

The race is, as they say, in the history books! Button took 6th overall while Sato gained a position from grid position of 12th to conclude the race in 11th place. :) IMO Button may have held on to 5th for the entire race if it weren't for that questionable inside pass made by JPM in the Williams BMW! Nevertheless this race is a great way to start the season for BAR. Hopefully things go well enough for them this year to take 4th (and even 3rd) in constructor's title. As Honda fans, we have Fukui-San to thank for allowing Honda to redeem themselves in motorsports, F1 in particular, once again! :D

*Edit* Sato came in 9th, not 11th.

Ops, Sorry Taj, I didn’t see this thread before I started my own
Anyway, I hope Montoya finally wins it this year. Even against the odds.

Agreed, If he could have stayed on course for that first corner the outcome could way better for him. PLus what's up with 2 stops over 10 seconds!

The entire race was almost decided after the first two corners. Similar to last year, the Renaults had a fantastic start especially for Alonso. He was able to pass Montoya with two left wheels on the grass and forced Montoya into the dirty line. The rest was history.

Next race is going to be in Sepang, Malaysia. Show time starts at 10:30pm PST on Saturday March 20, 2004.
