Expected miles from stock clutch with SC?

Getting ready to slap on a CT supercharger on my 2000 NSX and was wondering what type of miles I can expect out of my stock clutch. I plan on driving the car pretty normal with no 1/4 mile racing and only some spirited fun every once and a while. If I do drive fast, it will be after the car is in motion. BTW, the car has I/H/E.
Thanks in advance,
John Richards

I also own a '00 and put in the Comptech SC about 5K miles ago, I have not had any clutch problems whatsoever. I believe it will be hard for someone to give you concrete numbers as the 3.2's clutch is substantially different from the 3.0's. So I don't believe there will be very many people that have put on a lot of mileage yet with our setup.

Also your driving technique is very important on the longevity of the clutch. If you let your clutch slip, it won't last very long. Just make sure you don't get on the gas until the clutch is comptletely engaged and I believe your clutch will last a long time.

Good Luck! You will love the Supercharger!

Obviously, clutch life is partially determined by the driver's foot coordination. If you engage the clutch quickly, do not use the clutch as a hill brake nor do 4000 RPM dumps, the clutch will last a long time.

On my SC'ed 3.0L with the dual disc system, my clutch lasted a tad over 35k miles. As another data point, that includes many track events. The only reason I had to replace the clutch was because one of the metal tabs that retains the disc springs had broken off. The errant piece of metal jammed itself, making clutch release very difficult. Upon removal of the clutch, only 50% of the wear material was gone.

Andy,

WOW now that's a great clutch, 50% left!
I have the same setup now, '94 3.0L SC. Love it, but ususally TRY not to launch often or hill brake. I am more concerened about my timing belt at 19,500 miles. I have done a search, but, cannot really get an anser on how far to push it other than change it now, so I guess I will....wish it was as reliable as the clutch!

Justin

your timing belt is good for 90k

I believe Tampa was referring to NSXTASY's bad arithmetic. The belt is now 4 (not 2) years overdue.

BTW John, that June 2nd Canyon run was F-U-N, esp. the latter part!!! YUM! Can't wait 'til next year! Thanks for hosting!

Bad arithmetic?

snyper2727 is the one who raised the timing belt issue. He has a '94 NSX. The belt is scheduled to be replaced every 90K miles or every 6 years, whichever comes first. Since he hasn't hit 90K miles, it was due to be replaced 6 years after 1994, which was in 2000. It is now 2 years overdue.

Unless you can convince me somehow that it is 4 years overdue, it might be possible that someone else is the one guilty of bad arithmetic...

I came up with 3 years overdue since a 94 was probably made in late 93.

93-94
94-95
95-96
96-97
97-98
98-99
99-00

This reminds of those "stump Ken" questions.

I guess since my car is a 92 with only 41K on it I should look into the timing belt thing to be done soon?
Since I just got the Basch charger do you think that will have to come off to do it?

Acura's recommendation is six years. The question becomes, how long do you feel comfortable stretching beyond their recommendation? Compare how badly would you be kicking yourself if the timing belt broke and you faced an expensive repair with how much you save by continuing to put it off.

I did mine after eight years. You're now at ten. Oh, I suppose now I should specify, approximately ten. But if, like nsxbadboy, you're looking for mathematical precision in months rather than years, you can determine when your car was built by checking the plate on the driver's side door jamb.

Actually, I was making a "tongue in cheek" estimate of "4" miles as to how long the stock clutch would last with forced induction. Intended for humor only!
