What are your opinions/experiences with aftermarket exhaust systems that do not have heat shields on them? What aftermarket exhaust systems have them? Do any have them?

I'm a little worried about custom exhaust systems such as the one below.

I will be having one custom fabricated this weekend but have some concerns about heat. I know some have experienced melted valences and melted toolkits primarily from the B&B Triflow/RM Racing exhaust systems.

Am I just paranoid? Any recommendations?

You raise a good and valid point.

The NSX exhaust does get hot, if you don't believe me try to bring some frozen grocery in some 15 minutes of spirited driving, especially if you don't have a trunk mat ......... your microwave defrost function will not be as efficient ......

Some mufflers generate more heat than others ......... you would think there was a reason why Honda opted to put the shields (same issue has been raised re brake dust shields and the effect of heat to the boot) - this, even though we all claim that mother Honda does things for reasons which we do not understand .... LOL!

If you do a search on this forum, you wil find that one aftermarket exhaust with dual tip ...... blew a hole in the upper facia of the muffler and almost caused a melt down in the trunk while others have damaged the rear valence .....

We have witnessed two events where cars that went off the track started a dry grass fire from the heat generated from the underbody, presumably exhausts/cats .... both were mostly track cars and not NSXs.

Do I want an aftermarket exhaust on my NSX, sure, if it's the right one ..... ;)

A few years ago, after an off-track experience, one of my rubber exhaust hangers caught on fire and burt to a crisp. One of our quick-thinking track mates was quick on the fire extinguisher and took care of things before it had a chance to do more damage. Exhaust was RM DTM.
