Exhaust installation on 2000 vs 1995?

I am trying to install an aftermarket exhaust on my 2000 NSX. I had installed one before on my previous 1995 NSX.

Looking underneath, however, my 2000 NSX looks a bit different from the 1995 one I had. Am I correct that there are total of 4 (2 on each side) nuts to unfasten rather than 6 (3 on each side)? Also, there are some type of "springs" wrapped around each bolt. What are they? I wonder whether I should just take the car to the mechanic to be safe.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The newer style connections are a ball type joint. One side is a ball shape anmd the other side is a matching socket shape. This is used in place of the "flex" joint, and in fact acts like a flex. The joint is "spring loaded" so it can move and still seal the exhaust joint.

So you just remove each bolt and reuse them with the spring. They can be a little hard to compress and start the nut on the end, but you will get the hang of it by the time you are done;):D.

What exhaust system did you get and what adapters do you have?

LMK if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much, Larry, as always!! I got the adapters from SOS!

I bought the same adapters from SOS for my '00 as well back a couple years ago the quality and fit are very good. Difference in years below...

From SOS's Website:

Q: Why do exhausts for 1997 and later NSXes cost more?
A: Due to a design change by Honda, the 1997 and later NSXes require additional hardware. These exhausts include additional pipes designed for the aftermarket exhausts we sell. The 1997 and later exhausts also include brand new stainless bolts, nuts, and crush washers, added assurance for a clean and easy bolt-on installation.
