Here are some pictures of the exhaust heat shield modification that D'Ecosse came up with and also installed, while I mostly watched, on my '01. It certainly made a big difference in the trunk temperatures created from my CT muffler. Thanks again Ken.

*stuff missing from the space shuttle* ... im telling

Whoa ... the man (ken) is just all talented. What kind of material is that? Good option for those who want to put a power amp where the tool set is, but were iffy of the heat issue.

Yeah, Ken is the man, no doubt. My car would be a mess without him.

OK, the stuff we used on the car came from SpeedZone24-7.com. I bought (4) of item 13575-Heat Barrier Adhesive Back 12"x24" at $16.35 each; (1) 16500 Muffler/Catalytic Converter Heat Shield Kit at $47.00; plus $11.11 shipping/handling for a total of $123.51. Well worth it if you ask me. Plus it looks cool under the car too!

SpeedZone24-7.com canbe reached at their web-site, or by calling them at 440.546.0770, 11805 Chippewa Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.

Hope that helps.

beautiful work...man, that trunk gets hot.
what kinda differential in temp we seeing???

Meaningless without data, right?

Yes - unfortunately that's a shortfall on my part - I would have loved to have access to an infra-red pyrometer for before/after comparison.

I can only give you subjective review, that it makes a recognizable difference.

The difference for me when I ran my RSR exhaust was that before, I couldn't hold my hand for very long on the floor above the spare tire tools area without it getting unpleasant very quickly. After the install, it was noticably cooler and I could keep it there all day. I would guess it was at least a 15 degree difference. Hard to say for sure w/o a real measurement.

My current Ark exhaust runs a bit hotter but still is not unpleasant. When I got back under the car to install the exhaust, I covered up the bolts with this thick aluminum tape to deflect heat and I also used more of the plastic fasteners to hold it up.

your spidy-sense works for me!

i was thinkin, 2 liter bottle h2o in trunk. drive comparo
for x time, then thermometer the test fluid...

infra-red pyrometer would steal $$$ for other nsx goodies.

works for me!

Agree - There is no way I could even place my hand on my trunk floor before this mod.
I think adding the other adhesive material can only help further Malibu - on Cairo's car we used even more than on mine - we got 4 sheets for his vs only 2 I used. This particularly helps reflect that area on the firewall by the headers (the front wall of the trunk).

my interests stem from the fact the oem cd unit
gets skippy/jangled as temps rise in the ol' trunk

i also was thinking of transporting body parts

Or ... how about just leaving the thermometer in the trunk! <!--StartFragment -->

Unfortunately too late for a "before" test in the case of those who've already done it.

For anyone considering this it would be good if someone would do this - just ensure the ambient conditions are similar and the test-drive is of equal duration/engine performance etc.

Re: Exhaust Heat Shielding & nanoquantum physics

don't laugh....
i was thinking along the lines of the heisenberg
uncertainty principle....

the act of picking up said thermometer, and examining
it outside the trunk may lead to a misread of actual ambient temp
in the trunk.

on the other hand, a sample of water will "carry" heat
to the bench, affording a more certain reading, me thinks...

i figured with all that nasa brand cladding that we would elevate the science...
and sorry for mixing particle theory & energy, but i assume they are the same.
