A couple of years ago there was a really good thread on Prime (or maybe it was NSXCB.co.uk) by someone who had rebuilt his gearbox.
He had pictures step by step, it was so good that many others suggested it should be on the FAQ.
It was in Germany or Finland or somewhere cold I think.

After an exhausting search I still can't find it, does anyone know where that thread is?

Thanks

I just searched again for several hours. Didn't find it. I searched Google also.
I thought it was on Prime, but it may have been on another site.
It was a pictorial step per step taking the engine out and rebuilding the gearbox by a couple of guys in a garage/workshop, I think somewhere in Europe. It was winter (they had a heater though).
I think.
I am about to do my gearbox too. I have a heater.
Something tells me GoldNSX might have an idea where this was. I hope. I'll PM him. Fingers crossed.

:) Well, do you mean the two crazy guys who were well dressed but still were freezin their a** off at a shop in downtown Interlaken? Finland? Regarding the temperature it was like on the northpole.

I'd not call it step by step instruction because some steps in between are missing but here you go:

yea the pics are not there,, I would love to see them,, I tried refresh(f5) nothing tried to force the pic and nothing,, tried copying the pic to desktop nothing! yikes I want to see it real bad now!! LOL

ooooooooooh noooooooooooooo.
The pictures aren't there for me either.

Maybe it's the temperature at the North Pole. Or Finland. haha. Pretty funny joke, eh?

Just to make it worse for you guys (and me), the pictures were REALLY good despite what goldNSX says!

Guys,

What ever is "wrong" witht the pics is at your end. I can see them fine, so they are posted for public access.

Regards,
LarryB

There's another reason behind it but I don't know how to get wrid of it. I need an internet gury for this. Some months ago I tried to access the US part catalog we Europeans can't access. So I was looking for a service to fake my IP to let it seem like an US IP. But I got in a mouse trap I think.
Try visiting www.honda-nsx.ch and let me know what it says. I'm pretty sure it's like 'here starts the new webpage of...parallel confixx blablabla'. If people get this result they can't see the pics. If I try to access later it works but not always.

Bingo!
After Larry's post, the pictures are there for me! Thanks Larry.
bloody computers...
ok. Now to rebuild the gearbox.

With the heater on.

thanks GoldNSX! Really, that thread should be in the FAQ

What wrong with your gearbox? Have a look at the countershaft bearing around the snap-ring. I'd replace it with the snap-ring anyway if it's opened. Some guys here in Europe had a problem with it.

I still can't see any pictures.
I went to http://www.honda-nsx.ch/ directly and get a message in german that I think tells me the site is blocked?

Die Domain "www.honda-nsx.ch" ist nicht verfügbar.

If you guys don't get that message then maybe it's because I'm outside USA or Germany or whatever country .ch is ??? but it's very unusual to get a blocked site in my experience, who would be blocking this?

.ch is Switzerland.

It's redirected to another server parallel-confixx.com from time to time, not that I want it this way. The message is the announcement that the website will be created.

I don't want to have it redirected at all but don't know how to shut it off. I've talked to my hosting company and they were not able to correct my fault.

GoldNSX,
My box grinds terribly in 4th and 5th. I have ordered a 4.23 diff and Japanese 2nd gear with the other gears too. And syncros etc. and a carbon twin plate clutch to replace that awfully hard RPS single plate clutch. And a clutch master and slave cyl.

The whole thing is being done. Or the "hole" thing as you sometimes say. :-) OK, you are Swiss, but your English is very good. Better than my German. And, I think I saw your car last summer near the lake. Near Montreux. Do you live near there? I was driving in the traffic the other way.

Anyway, it will be a new box when I have rebuilt it.

So Sparkly, now you know, .ch is Switzerland. Next to Finland. haha. Sorry, you are an Ozzy, not an American...so you would know this. Oh god, I'm so funny.

Ok, I'll stop now.

after shifting or while rolling?

I'm sorry I was not in Montreux the whole (correct? :)) time I owned my NSX I'm afraid. :)

Have fun with the 'new' gearbox, I really liked the step-up over the Indianapolis gearing of the first cars. :D

While driving and shifting into 4th gear from 3rd gear, and then from 4th gear to 5th gear. Way worse in the latter. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are still ok.

There is also a trumbling noise coming from the gearbox, bearings I guess. The "whole" thing needs rebuilding. "Whole", ganz richtig!

BTW, I'm on www.honda-nsx.ch in the links page at the moment, you could add nsxcb.co.uk. That is a very good site, very active and with many helpful people. It is a British NSX site.

The NSX I saw was gold, normal rear wing, gold roof, alu wheels (not stock wheels). Swiss plates but I couldn't see what canton. How many NSXes are there in CH? Not too many gold ones, I would bet. I then continued over to Torino and I saw a red one. All in the same week! It had no dents! Amazing.

In May we are all going to the Alsace again, it's only a couple hours' drive for you. You should meet us there. The date isn't fixed yet. The Grand Ballon. Wonderful for fast cars! I'm sure you've seen it.

pic show up just fine for me.

I'll bet a beer it's the countershaft bearing. I have two of them + snap-ring in stock for the Swiss guys whose gearbox is going to fail one time. Good to know that they're here not very frequently so they don't know of the big bill they've to expect. :D The 5th is the nearest to the bearing and the later is said to be the weak point in the gearbox. What mileage? The bearing goes noticably bad at around 150k +-50k km. Is your car an ex-Swiss car?

Thanks for the suggestion: I'm on nsxcb.uk too.

Gold must be a custom color. I don't know a gold one even though my name carries some part of it. :) Ok, I don't know much NSX in the French part of Switzerland but there have been sold a few as the central of Honda is located near Geneva. An Italien car with no dents is indeed amazing. :D

Let me think about May. It would be great to meet but time will decide. :)

I'm doing some English courses to learn the meaning of whole, hole and holy.

Please post some pics of your findings. :)

Cheers!

English courses? Holy Cow!
I learnt my (limited) German on the "street". Geile. But I guess that's not really Swiss, is it?

And it's "latter", not "later".

No, it isn't. Better go on the 'street' once more. And please be careful while using 'Geile'. Don't tell it to a woman unless she's obviously horny. 'Geil' is ok which means 'I like it very much'.:cool:

Thanks for the correction. :) Those small differences...Our English teacher had his fun while reading with us Shakespear's McBeth or how the guy is called. In the end, we were able to confuse people on the street with 'our' English but were not able to ask where the next station is or how to write a business letter. The whole holy English course left a hole in our brains. Stupid English literature. :D

... Oh god, I'm so funny. Ok, I'll stop now.

don't stop, I'm still rolling on the floor
... and Finland's next to Bolivia, right ?

still can't see those images. Funny thing is the status bar at bottom of my browser says it's loading images OK and reports "Done" as if no issue

aaaaHA! That explains it! Her handbag hurt my head really badly when I was in Germany yesterday.

Sparky, I will try to capture the photos and text in JPGs and email it to you. Give me a couple of days, but don't hesitate to remind me if you don't get them in a couple of days. I'm pretty busy.

goldNSX, I have something to confess to you, I'm just messing with your English. English is my mother tongue, (I am Canadian) so it is easy for me to correct you. But not really fair of me.

710, you're a champ,

but I must point out, it's aaahah! , not aaaaHA!
(from the perspective of the better hemisphere  )
