Hi all,
I have a 5 speed manual 1993 (Honda) NSX with an EPS problem. The unit works but is noisey (sounds like bearings) and I am attempting to find someone who can remanufacture this part. Given the volume of discussion on this forum about this part surely someone must know of a reputable repairer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You have to understand that there are only three cars made that use or possess EPS. The NSX (no longer in production), the S2000 and the Prius. The S2000 and the Prius have the Torque Sensor now mounted off the steering rack so it is easier to access and repair. That is a pretty small amount of cars so the repair of this part is almost non-existent. You'll get a better taste of this once you own your car a bit longer and things start to break.

Only three? Civic Hybrid? Insight?

There are more than three. The Opel Corsa had early electric power steering for one along with some other European only models. Some BMW, Nissan and I suspect that any of the new Fords with park assist probably have electric power steering. Car and Driver says that in excess of 50% of new vehicles in 2011 had electric assist although I haven't been lifting hoods to do a check on their figure!

Yes as of the turn of the century, that was it. I agree with Old Guy that there are probably way more now. Especially with all the Hybrids and electric cars on the road. But the NSX was the first. just like it was the first with many other things.

Something to look forward to

Sorry to burst your bubble but with a car with so many years and miles on it, things will break. These cars have not been produced in 8-9 years, not many parts made and fewer cars left, it's going to be a trick to find and afford the parts. Nature of the beast. Oh but what a beast!

most Electric power steering (many small cars now!) are EPS columns, with a conventional rack below, the NSX is different as its the rack itself that houses the sensors/motors

Interesting discussion. Does anyone know why the NSX EPS design wasn't more widely adopted? Is the EPS column a better design?

Probably the real reason was because it was mounted on the steering rack. If it stopped working, you threw away the entire rack, kind of like throwing out the baby with the bath water. By separating the components, if either were to give you trouble, you only needed to repair/replace one item.

Sorry Im just now seeing this :) Im trying really hard to be on here a lot more. I am about to send one gorgeously repaired EPS unit back to Dubai and just received one from Texas. I will be glad to repair yours. Feel free to email me or call. My cell is 6 6 2 4 1 6 0 9 0 0 :)

8th and 9th gen Civic Si's also utilize EPS. (Just FYI :) )

A quick google search also turned up Lexus LX470, Landcruiser Cygnus, and BMW 5 series as utilzing EPS. Though surely there are several others.
