Need help.
The EPS light lights on after engine ignition. The power steering column have just been replace last year. What other diagnosis I can do? The faqs on the steering are jargon to me. The dealer at my place are crap since they only sell lower performance Honda car so they won't be able to fix my NSX. Lastly, how much will it cost to buy an EPS control unit? My NSX is a 1994 model.

Clear the codes on your computer. You can pull the clock fuse up front for about 15 seconds or just disconnect the battery. That should eliminate the light.Good luck.

Check with your dealer, I know my 95 just got the EPS control unit replaced free! It was a Acura "service" that extended the warr. on the EPS system, but you have a 94 I dunno if it's too late.

I think there was a problem with the 95 EPS. The 94 had no such problem.

My '96 had the same problem and it was fixed for free also. Honda extended the warranty to 8 years / ? miles. I think the dealer can see if your car qualifies for the free fix by checking your VIN.

I use the connector wire on the blue testing terminal and it gives me code 33. It was actually the speed sensor input unit that was giving the trouble. My question is now how to fix it. Does having bigger tyre rims contribute to the problem?

Again for your information there is only one Honda dealer in my country and they are of no use (they don't know anything about electronic parts).

Jin,

Look at the service manual here on Prime. Section 17 pages 51-52 give you a procedure to test the "Speed Sensor". The procedure asks the first question: "Is the speedometer working?" I think that the EPS system and the speedo work off of the same speed sensor. I am thinking if the speedo is OK< then the actual sensor is not bad, maybe a connection some where.

This problem can be triggered by trying to turn the steering wheel, even with lite effort, as you start the car. No hands on the steering when starting.

Yep that's the problem. Sometimes as the car starts I play around with the steering wheel imagining how it feels like to go on the road.

Thanks Mandrewz.

Thanks Mandrewz.

There was a service bulletin for that...
http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Reference/tsb/97-037.htm

But according to it, it was for the 1997 models.

I'd check with Acura, they still might replace it for free.

mandrewz,

Nice catch

is the power steering still working ?? if not, you will need a new motor and it is expensive. try to get the right part number and ask NSX club in Japan to help source the item. it will be about 40% cheaper than buying it in the States via a dealer. Then ask the dealer just to instal. I drive an auto but never heard you should not play with the steering before starting up. that's news to me. Mine is a 91 model but had to replace the ALB system recently. that was extremely expensive even after I bought the parts from Japan.

You can try but eversince I stopped playing around with the steering wheel, the problem didn't come out.

bad karma, the EPS lite came on as I was driving home, then the green D on the auto transmission panel started flashing but car is still going normal. Except the speedo started to act erratic, dead and start up again etc. when I got home, switched off and restart, the transmission flashing on D stopped but lost power steering altogether.
based on reading FAQ etc, am I correct to assume there is a speed sensor problem before I bring into the only authorised dealer here. the power steering was Ok until I switched off and restart. Aslo are we talking BIG $$ re the speed sensor. Mine X is 91 with 28000 miles.Full service history at the dealer!!
