Engine Latch Came Off

First of all, I'm not sure this is the place to post my question. If it's the wrong place, please excuse me. The engine latch can be easily pulled out. It still open I just want to fix it. I tried to pop it back in and it did not work. I thought there might be a way to lock it in place but no luck. I do notice there are two small holes on the latch. One on top and one on the right side.

It's held in place by an e-clip; you slide the e-clip into the notch on the plastic lever while it's installed over the rod, to lock it in place.
