Is there any down side to running the NSX without the engine cover or with a mesh cover?

The engine cover has a rubber seal around the edges. Without one, water will leak into the engine compartment, and the hatch seal won't feel as secure (kind of loose/rattley to the touch). Neither aspect should damage anything though.

I just took it off from both of my NSXes. A lot of prople have done this and it looked good.

i removed mine a while back. only thing i notice is that it being a little loose... has let it vibrate and it scratched paint off of my car where the window is near the a pillar i think it is. i can post pics if u want.

Does the rear window get a film on it any faster?

My rear window seems to get a (brown) film on it fairly quickly with the engine cover in place - but looks and lightness could win out.

There are little knobs that you can turn to adjust so the hatch fits tighter. I removed my engine cover on my '92 and ran it for the entire time I had it and never had any vibration problems.

hummm

where are the little knobs to adjust?

maybe i removed them too as i have never seen them. maybe they are in plastic bags with the rest of my interior.

yeah my glass gets dirty pretty fast. faster than when i run with the cover.

Lee, there are little rubber knobs that act as rests for the engine cover. Just turn those so they begin moving upward, that'll ensure a tighter fit with the hatch.

I looked everywhere for these rubber stoppers. Cannot find them anywhere. Anyone have a pic??? HELP!

charley, refer to the service manual, page 879. You'll see it, it's refer to as the "engine cover edge cushion."

Thanks for the info Fangtl. Stupid question - where do I get a copy of the service manual? I'm assuming it's different from the owner's manual. Thanks.

It's not a stupid question.

There's an electronic version (.pdf format) of the '91 service manual on this site, here. It's a big file, so dial-up users beware.

However, if you plan to do any of the work on your car, you will really want to have the actual manual to work from. You can buy one here.

Thanks nsxtacy. I checked my car, and my car has the rubber stoppers but they are not adjustable. My car is a 98. I guess they changed the adjustable stoppers for the T-tops.

Just make sure you close the hatch only by applying gentle pressure above the latch. If you repeatedly slam it down, you could stress the rear window glass and it could eventually shatter.
