I noticed that the felt on top of the engine cover is comming off. Has anyone had that happen. Is there a conditioner that will keep the black felt from comming off? I think the prior owner left the car in the sun and the felt is very brittle. Any comment appreciated.

Mine has a similar problem. The "fleck" material is so brittle that if you run a shop vac over it you leave huge (like 1 1/2") wide scrape marks on it. I had the rear window tinted so that kind of solved the problem, but I will eventually get it re-upholstered (along with my seat bolsters).

You could always cover it in sheepskin...

I think I'm gonna go with the #3.

Yes is is "flocked" as Goins auto desribed it
we just finished mine.
I have 3 covers one shedding and untouched.(This one I will work with soon)

One that was done in aluminum with an opening done in lexan too.(this one I put up for sale)

Another which was shedding and "had" only the center removed and the opening filled with lexan.(this is the one I just re-did)

I cut three openings in the last one mentioned ,the center is lexan covered.
The sides are "now" opened and will be filled with black honeycomb mesh (like what I've seen in the Ferarri Modena)this material or similar material I am still searchig for.
The "flocking" is somewhat easily removed with a grinding wheel then filled where the imperfections were lastly the entire cover was painted to match the car."IT LOOKS GREAT!
I will be posting pics soon on another post.

After years of being in the sun, the felt on mine was starting to come off. I took a dishwashing scrubbing pad and took off the rest. (it just brushed off with the slightest touch) IMO it looks a lot better.
