I have a question. I know some of you have taken off your engine cover and have left it off. I'm wondering if the heat produced by the engine would make the glass more vulnerable to breaking/cracking? As we know heat rises, and the only place for it to rise up to, is the rear hatch glass. I'm just curious to hear if anyone ever had any problems with heat when they removed their engine cover. Thanks

When I took mine off the rattling bothered me and made me wonder if the constant vibration would perhaps crack the window over a long period of time????? So I put it back on, and I tinted the windows so I can't see the engine anymore anyways!

No problem with mine. Have had my cover off now for about 8 months. Though, be very carefull when closing the rear hatch, by not letting it drop. I had the misfortune of my FORMER mechanic, drop the rear hatch glass about half way up, and babooooooom, there went the rear hatch glass. It exploded into little pieces. Totally freaked me out, especially standing 5 feet away from the car when it happened :-(

Stick a thermometer back there sometime. The glass gets hotter sitting in the sun than from the engine. The bottom is all open so when you're driving the heat doesn't build up.

All Comptech supercharged NSX's run without the engine cover (won't fit over the supercharger). Comptech makes no modifications to the glass, which--with their record for emphasis on reliability--implies this is a safe modification to make.

That is not true. Comptech even makes a special engine cover replacement for the -T cars that clears the SC kit and holds the -T roof (it's included with the -T kit).
