Hey everyone,

Can someone please lend a hand figuring out my engine codes. My light came on 2 weeks ago on my 1998 NSX, but it drives perfect. I thought maybe it was random, so I reset the light. It was fine up until a few days ago when it came on again. I jumped the blue connector and counted the light blinks on my dash. Here is what I got:

Check engine - 9 times all same duration, it pauses then blinks 9 again. It continues this until I turn the ign. switch off

TCS - blinks 2 times, pauses then blinks 2 times, it continues this over and over until I shut off ign.

ABS - blinks 2 times, pauses then blinks 2 times again, pauses then blinks 2 times. It then doesn't blink anymore until I turn the ign. switch off and on again.

Again, the car runs great. I'm hoping it's just something dumb like a gas cap seal. The TCS, and ABS lights blinking threw me a bit. I wasn't expecting those lights to blink, is that normal??

Thanks,

John

the tcs and abs codes are from driving even a few meters with your hand brake engaged

Badcarma,

did you ever get the superleggeras???

Nobody knows the engine code??????

Trouble code 9 = Cylinder positioning sensor A

Troubleshooting guide is in page 11-46 of the 91 manual that is available online. It seems that this portion applies to all years but not 100% sure. Maybe the connector for the sensor is loose?

I'm not an expert on this subject and only stating what I got from the 91 manual...but the engine code 9 is the same for 91 and 97+.

Thank you very much for your reply, but are you sure it is the same, how do you know? did a technician tell you? I am going to check the sensor connector, but if I have to buy a new sensor I just wanted to make sure they are in fact the same codes.

John,

Go Here:

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/DIY/trouble_codes.htm

There is a cross reference for ODBI and ODBII. Code 9 is exactly as ak states. There is a 4 coil pack behind the front two cam gears and this indicated the signal from one coil pickup that the ECU Is not too happy with.

If you remove the clock fuse, (reset the ECU), does it return? To reset it, remove the 7.5 amp fuse in the front fuse box. When you look under the hood it is the fuse box just to the left rear of the spare tire. The legend on the fuse box indicaes the clock fuse.

Yeah, 2 weeks ago I reset the clock fuse. It was good for about 1.5 weeks and then it came back. I will check the connector, hopefully it's just loose. The car is running perfect, very strange

The connector (8 pin gray) for the cam/crank position sensor is located very close to the oil filler cap, just to the left of the alternator. Any chance you washed your engine lately:)??

Actually, funny you mentioned that because I did, and I was thinking the same thing you probably are. I will check it tonight, I'm going to put some dielectric grease in the connector to insure a good connection. I'll let you know :)
