End Link lock-nuts really necessary?

Is some type of lock-nut a necessity or just a factory precaution on the bar-side of the end link?

On one hand the old (presumably original) nuts were ny-lock types. The nuts that came with the new end-links are those obnoxious eccentric nuts...so there is a consistent theme there.

On the other hand, I have adjustable swaybars and would occasionally like to adjust them for different purposes and this is rather difficult when there's a damn lock-nut... Also, the end links on my MR2 use "normal" nuts, have far shorter bolt-ends, and have never come loose.

I'm just curious if there is something I'm missing before I source some round/non-ny-lock, corrosion-resistant nuts for these things.
