EGR code 12, options?

Few months back, i experienced the first time the EGR problem, code 12.
Didn't come up till last week, and it comes on more often now.

I was wondering if the EGR valve itself is faulty, or can it be serviced (DIY)?

Hi Mich,

Hope all is well. Page 11-128 of the service manual starts the diagnosis for this. It appears there can be a few issues:

1. EGR Valve
2. CVC Valve
3. ECU
4. Vacuum leak (bad hose, maybe split)

It looks like all other things are checking the wiring. I personally would prioritize checking #1 and #4, just my gut feeling.

Also for the procedures it requires a hand held vacuum pump, which is not too expensive.

Problem solved.

Vacu hose to EGR split.
Explains the inttemintent to steady character as well.
