Just on the news today that Edmonton is talking about noise laws for bikes and vehicles. Looks like someone with an Eng. Degree devised and device similar to photo radar to capture sound violating vehicles.
Talks are beginning, but no one agrees who will enforce the law since bylaw can't handle what they have right now. Cops say its not their baby.
So we will see, but mister Flowmaster might have to come off and I might have to midnite auto Dans Ark.

I could care less about the noise laws. I'm still running around all summer with a 3-inch exhaust and open wastegate. Why wouldn't I? If they start targeting Diesels and Harleys, then maybe I'd see it being effective, but right now, it's just bikes and imports, so too bad.

All the cops have to do is go to United Cycle and Tim Hortons on Whyte to issue tickets.

It hope they pass it and enforce it..

Those Harleys are friggin annoying. Barely idling at a red light and its make more noise then my stock car stereo..

Trev, its not like I can't hear you across Wayne Gretzky drive at night ......

I read this article as well. Funny how things go around. When I was 16 the exhast to have was a thrush muffler. A thrush muffer, with the orginal removed increased HP, but with more noise.
Today a civic makes more noise than HP. Coffee Can mufflers are designed for nothing but noise. They do not produce less restriction and provide more HP, they just make noise. If you remove the coffee can, the noise level goes down. My feeling is a civic should not be noiser than a MAC truck!
Honda spends ernormous amounts of engineering to make their cars quiet. Even a Honda Gold Wing is quiet!
Exhast sound for the sake of just making Noise does not have any value.
Don't count on the Edmonton City Police using such a device. They do not have enough resources to keep up today with todays traffic offences. My neighbour is a cop and he says they have the same number of traffic only cops on the streets today as they did 20 years ago.
The bylaw limit is 60dB(A) for a maximum. It is also tough to prove in court because the police do not have calibrated tools avialable to determine the amplitude in every police unit.
Even though 60dB(A) is a relatively low level (people can yell louder), they need to prove that you are too loud. The cops hate enforcing bylaws. They feel this is below them. This is only a bylaw, not a traffic offence.
If you do get pulled over, expect a warning at the most. (warnings produce no paperwork)

No Ed, but you can hear me all the way up Fort Road on the way to the Casino!!!!
I talked to Tim, an officer at the bike show this weekend.
He is on the committee to investigate this noise issue.
I suggested to him that an awareness is the first step.
Perhaps quiet zones as well posted.
I told him to go down to United Cycle and all the gathering places and educate us bastards is a good thing for sure.
His son has cars and he has noisy bikes.
Its a tough situation and going to be interesting.
Warren, I have a little surprize in a box coming up soon from Prospeed, so then I can go stealth and sneak up on you.
