E-Manage Limitations????

I have read about limitations with the E-Manage installed in that it has never been successfully implemented on the NSX. But I am curious as to why, what were the problems??

The reason I ask is that I implemented the E-Manage on the J-Series engine which the engine controls are very similar, not to mention potential output. It took some bench time with multiple scopes and signal generators to get the settings right (of which GReddy had no part in). But at this time there are numerous J-Series equiped cars successfully running the E-Manage.

Not that I plan on trying it yet as if I retain the C-Series I will probably use the EMS. I was just curious of the problems experienced.

The e-manage is junk, plain and simple. Many stories are floating around, but I can tell you from personal experience that it contributed to my last car violently blowing two motors under low boost. It's unreliable and can also decide to randomly stop making changes, not to mention the inherent issues with timing control that the unit has. Last but not least, GReddy tech support is by far the absolute worst i've ever dealt with. This is not intended as a flame, but rather a cautionary tale...stay clear of it and stick with the AEM, which i've found to not only be extremely capable and diverse, but also a great bargain. Hope that helps.

IMO, I would reserve that to the C-Series as I personally developed the application for the J-Series. But that is a different engine and maybe a different time.

I initially started testing the E-Manage on the bench and then on my Acura CL-S 6MT back in the fall of 2003. It took about a month to get it right but from there it went perfectly. I put about 10k miles on the car with it making 370 WHP. Now there are at least twenty CLs/TLs running the E-Manage successfully with forced induction including some well over 400 WHP. I know most of them as I made the PnP harness for well over half.

Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your terrible luck with it. And I am planning on running the AEM EMS as it will do what I need. I was just curious as to why it didn't work on the C-Series. Was it unable to control timing correctly? It couldn't advance the timing on the J-Series but it worked well retarding. Did the additional injection not work? I never used the airflow adjustment as it wasn't needed. Nor did I change the VTEC change over point as it was already optimal. All I used the E-Manage for is for the Boost Cut in place of the Comptech ESM, Additional Injection and Timing Retard.

I completely agree about GReddy's tech support. They were of no use at all. The E-Manage yahoo forum was a greater resource and just plain testing on the bench. Since the J-Series is not used in Japan there were no resources of information so I was on my own. I tried calling GReddy once and never did again. I was fortunate in having all necessary equipment to simulate the vehicle to get it right on the bench before putting it in the car.

So it didn't work properly for you either I see. Not trying to give you a hard time, but there are many many ppl out there that have had issues with it. Mine actually quit working on the dyno, with my third motor in the car, could have blown that one too. I won't get into every problem i've had with it, but the unit is garbage, it's just that simple...they are very unreliable even when you get them to work on the car. Like you, i've also made around 400 rwhp with the unit...and I can tell you that my car picked up 30 rwhp just switching to the AEM alone, tuned very conservative. Also, I won't buy a product from a company that offers absolutely no informed tech support on said product, and is offensive and rude when you call, as GReddy is. I know all of them over there...Charles, Toshi, Kenji, etc...they couldn't care if you blow the heads off the block trying to get the thing to work properly.

Let's just say i'm glad you decided to go AEM, you sound like someone who knows what he's doing and i'm sure you agree what a bargain it is.

I had e-manage in my single turbo NSX, and all of the functins work when the car was standing on idle, but then on boost timming was not working too good and tunning as a pain. I had it for a week and throw it to garbage after the frustration it gived me. Now I have the AEM ecu and could not be any more happier.

AEM is awsome, and the best choise I think.
