Yes i did a search but found different answers. Is there duty to pay when importing a NSX.I was under the impression that there wasn't. But just read a post that sais there was 6.1% duty.Anyone that imported one that can tell me.

I think that the 6.1% excise tax on cars manufactured in areas other than North America only applies if the vehicle is 15 years or younger. Someone else on here can confirm that.

There is duty on a car if it is NOT made in the US (which the NSX is not, so yes there is duty when you bring them into Canada)

The 15 year thing is for RIV.
If its 15 years or older you don't have to process the car through RIV (driving lights, child seat anchor, and French SRS sticker)

Hidden gotcha. There is a $100 A/C tax paid at the border as well.

Yes duty will be 6.1 %.But also beware of the PST,GST and depending on price Luxury tax(not quite sure at what price point this comes into play).Quite the kicker if you are looking at a newer car.

I imported a 2000 back in Aug, was pretty straight forward, this topic has been covered so many times in the Canadian forums we should defineatly put together all this in a FAQ for newbies as I was once one myself... btw Search is your friend :)

Yes 6.1% & any car 15years or less must pass thru RIV + recall clearance letter + $100 A/C tax + copy of bill of sale (Some ports want to see the original documents or will at least check your originals) + title faxed to the boarder 72hrs before trying to cross boarder and must be cleared for export by US Customs, I strongly suggest you call them to make sure they got it before you show up.

RIV fee ~ $200 doesn't apply & exempt on 15+

GST applied after the 6.1% import taxes (All must be paid at border before entering Canada)

PST also applied when registered with the MTO as well as Safety, if 15yrs or newer Emissions, and RIV requirements for Prov. Safety DRL's, Child Safety Bolts, French Labels, Metric Conversion on OD (Already marked on the NSX)

Also note the 6.1% is on the value of the Canadian dollar on the day you take position from the seller not when you buy your USA dollars. So if the dollar drops your calculations could be wrong. That is also the value the will do the GST from. I've brought back 2 2005's this year and that was the only difference was that calculation.
