Is it just me, or do driving manners degrade the further south one goes in Ontario? I'm from Ottawa and I drove my NSX down to Niagara this past weekend. Now, obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part, drivers here will shift to the right when another car comes up behind them. This courtesy appears to be the exception in places like Toronto though. I'd have to say that *most* of the time, I had to pass cars on the right, because they refused to budge. One particularly bad example on the 407: I came up behind a minivan who in turn was behind a G55 AMG (gotta be the ugliest vehicle on the planet, but I digress). The minivan clearly wanted by, but the G55 wouldn't budge. So Mr. Minivan went around, and pulled back into the left lane, even though both the middle and the right lane were totally empty. So I come up behind the G55 and of course he won't budge for me either. So I pass on the right as well. I like to obey laws and pass on the left, so I pulled into the left lane and quickly came up behind Mr. Minivan, who of course refused to budge, even though he had just gone through the experience of being blocked and forced to pass on the right.
Why do people do this? Are they unware of the "keep right except to pass" law? It's really frustrating... and this leads to poor judgment calls and accidents.
I'd like to think that I always move over to the right when somebody wants by... of course, that never happens because I'm always the fastest car on the road
