Driver and Passenger Seatbelts Stuck???

Hi Guys...

Here's a new one for ya. I believe that somehow in wiring up my aftermarket horn button, and testing the connections on the SRS plugs... I messed up something that allows my seatbelts to function properly.

Basically, my driver and passenger side seatbelts are stuck, and I am not able to pull them down to buckle them. I think that the pretensioners are stuck somehow. I am not really sure how I should tackle this problem. I believe that I may possibly have shorted something connected to the SRS system, and the seatbelts just locked up.

Any suggestions on where I should start to be able to get my seatbelts functioning? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I've already conducted a keyword search on 'seatbelts' but haven't found any helpful info.

Much appreciated.

Dave...

Thanks for the heads up. I'll follow up with Acura in the morning to see what they have to say about that. I'll follow up with everyone as to what the outcome is, in case anyone else runs into the same problem as I did. It would be nice if this becomes the solution to my problem. :)

Just wanted to update everyone...

I called around to 3 local Southern California Acura dealers to see who would honor the claimed "lifetime warranty" of seatbelts...

1. Santa Monica Acura: Don't even think about it, they have terrible customer service, and were rude to me. Even tried to charge me $85.00 for a basic oil change. Also, told me that I would have to pay for all of the services/parts for fixing my seatbelt issue. I would avoid this dealership. I've had 3 past bad experiences here as well since I used to live in Santa Monica.

2. Power Acura of Southbay: Torrance, CA This dealership was very cordial and the service person was professional. However, he insisted that I pay them $150.00 upfront to perform an 'inspection' and then if it was deemed that the seatbelt issue wasn't from an accident, then they would consider covering it under warranty and refund my $150.00. IF it wasn't covered, I would be responsible for the work inspection, work performed, and costs of all the parts. He didn't sound like he was going to honor the warranty work and sounded skeptical about my honesty. I think that the thought I hit something with my car and was trying to fix my airbags/seatbelts out of my own pocket, which isn't the case. Regardless, choice 3...

3. Keyes Acura: Van Nuys, CA This was the dealership that got my vote and will be the dealership of choice for me in my area from now on. The service person was very friendly and mentioned the lifetime warranty on seatbelts upfront. So I have an appt tomorrow for an oil change and to inspect the seatbelts... I'll follow up to let you know what I find...

Van Nuys Acura couldn't find out what caused my seatbelt retractors to lock. They finally got one unlocked, but it apparently locked up again after 5 mins. Not sure what the deal is....

Regardless, they ordered me a new set of seatbelts and retractors under warranty. They also comped my oil change since I had to wait so long, and they washed my car as well.

Pretty pleased with their service and help.

Hi Guys,

Quick update on my situation...

Apparently, my seatbelt retractors weren't working for 2 reasons... the SRS system apparently triggered the pretensioning system to cause the retractor pendulums to lock. They were unlockable, so Josh at Keyes Acura in Van Nuys ordered a new set of pretensioners and new seatbelts all covered under warranty.

I just had all the work done in about 3.5 hrs at Acura and everything was covered under warranty. Big thanks to Josh at Keyes Acura and also to my friend Malibu Rapper for helping me out with info on the the SRS pretensioning system.

Also, I noticed that my new OEM seatbelts are manufactured by Takata. News to me.
