People ask me why I am just not very interested in drag racing. Here are this weeks WINNERS from the biggest 1/4 mile track within 3 hours. I think I'd rather watch paint dry!!! Maybe if I lived where people ran more serious hardware I'd find it more interesting.

I'm also curious how a truck running 14.193 was "fastest truck" when a Toyota truck ran 13.377, but I guess there is some sort of redneck correction factor involved.

Fastest Domestic
Jason Newton - Bluff City, TN
1967 Chevy II Station Wagon / E.T. 12.434

Fastest Import
Scott Johnson - Weaverville, NC
1986 Toyota Truck / E.T. 13.377

Fastest Truck
Ken Bates - Elizabethton, TN
1984 Chevy S10 / E.T. 14.193

Fastest Motorcycle
Michael Birchfield - Johnson City, TN
2002 ZX12R Ninja / E.T. 10.352

Burn-out Winner
Mitchell Allen - Elizabethton, TN
GEO Storm
1 minute 57 seconds before popping tires

I went to "Street Night" at New England Dragway in Epping, NH last night to watch a buddy of mine race his Cobra Kit Car. Took him 2 years to build factoring job, kids, life. He's a huge car buff and I really respect him given his commitment and his "McGeyver like" creativity on a limited budget.

Anyway, with a 5.0 liter Mustang engine in a 2450 lb body, his best run was a respectable
12.2 He thinks he can break 12 if he gets his launches down and I agree.

The way you can have a faster time and still lose is all in the "holeshot" or launch. That is, once the clock starts, if your daydreaming, it's like giving the other guy a head start. So even if he tops out at 100 and you at 110mph, it's that head start lead you gave him being slower to react that makes or breaks, the better driver factor.

And while I LOVE the handling of my NSX and am looking forward to getting it to Lime Rock, my first car at 18 was a '74 Pontiac TransAm with a 455 Super Duty I rebuilt from the ground up. It's in the blood.

I figure with the 9psi CTSC, CT intake, headers, exhaust and a 50 shot of NOS, the CAR is capable of running sub 11.5. The DRIVER however, is another story.

Gotta try it ONCE. Goin' up beg of August. Who knows, maybe I'll find an 18 year old kid with a 455 Super Duty......

It also had cast iron headers and a six pack (3x2 barrel carbs). The cast iron headers eliminated the need for header gaskets. Anyone who has changed header gaskets on an old muscle car knows how big a pain they were. And the 6 pack? I think it and the manifold sell for the same price as a '02 NSX IF you can find one!
