I'm trying to install two head units into the stock stereo location.

1)DVD player
2)CD Head Unit.

Has anyone tried to install a Double DIN stereo in their NSX? I've seen a lot on single DIN on the board but nothing on double DIN. Anyone have some pictures to share?

i remember seeing one and there were pics on prime. I think the double din set up fills the dashspace nice and did not look over done.

almost double DIN

The original head unit is double DIN(hidden behind the facia), so if you use a lower headunit that is not too wide it should work fine. Here is what I did.

mandrewz: What shift knob is that?

Thanks mandrewz for the pics, that is a very nice clean install!

After careful measurements I've got just enough room to mount 2 decks. I'm getting a custom mounting bracket made so the OEM mount holes can be used.

I haven't decided on cutting of the OEM console or buying an SOS or Dali aftermarket yet. The OEM finish on my original seems to have started bubbling at the edges, no noticeable in car, very noticeable now that it is out. Repaint on original might be necessary.

If anyone is interested I should have some pics up on my web site, or some here as well. I'll keep you posted as the new stereo units go in...

I gutted the factory radio to serve as a mounting bracket for the head unit. The XM radio controller was molded into the original center console facia, as was a molding to frame the head unit which cannot sit flush to operate properly. The shift knob is Integra type'R'. 2000 model year. Lots of test fitting was needed. ABS was used to reconfigure the facia as needed. It was shot with flat finnish 'stainless steel' industrial strengh anti-chip paint.

mandrewz: How did you change the color of the lights on the Climate Control unit??? I've been wanting to change the lights on the instrument panel since I got the NSX, but I eventually decided against it cause I couldn't match the color of the other electronics!!! I didn't realize you could tamper with the Climate Control lights!!! Please share your secret :D!

I agree!. I would love to change the color of the readouts on my dash. It is very difficult to see the numbers etc!! I would love to know how you changed them as well.

I also just purchased an '03 NSX and am trying to decide how to get a GPS in it. The SOS version with the Pod is nice but I saw someone in Prime had put the Kenwood single din stereo with 6.5" screen than comes out like a cd would. It looks really cool! I am very averse to cutting up my console to change the electronics so I am trying desperately to find a way around it. The SOS pod may be the only answer but that only is a
GPS system not a stereo/CD.:D

changing the climate control and clock lights are easy. Just take them apart and remove the orange plastic piece thatgo between the lcd and the display. the other lights just have orange boots on them.

SNDSOUL : THANKS for the info! Thats going to be my next mod now! :D I guess you changed the lights on the gauges also then? Looks kind of white/bluish...

PS: I see your carbon fibre pieces popping out... :) I have them on my other car as well... They never stick to places

yes, my complete system has been upgraded:
Panasonic 9200U am/fm dvd/tv
Eclipse 4 ch amp
Eclipse point source components with Morel tweeters
Eclipse 8" sub in passenger floor board
Eclipse center channel

Sound is very transparent, rich and balanced. 100 times better than stock in every way.
